Wednesday, July 18th

I have great news! On Thursday, July 26th at 2:15 pm, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold an oversight hearing to "examine the regulation of tribal gaming, focusing on brick and mortar to the Internet." You can read the full Committee announcement here.

It is great that our issue remains in the public eye and that we continue gaining traction in Congress. Additionally, this is a great opportunity for us as individual advocates, as it provides a great platform to be heard. After all, lawmakers will be paying even more attention to poker communications now, so let’s all ensure we are reaching out and being heard!
  1. Let's send prefilled, fully editable tweets to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, Senator Daniel Akaka, and Senator John Barrasso: HERE, HERE and HERE.
  2. Let's retweet today's #Fight4Poker action plan HERE, share it on our Facebook walls HERE, share it via Google+ HERE, and share it via LinkedIn HERE. As the plan is self-contained on these social networking sites (i.e., the links to the prefilled tweets are contained in the tweets/posts themselves), promotion of it can get us lots of new participants
  3. Let's post pro-poker comments to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee Facebook wall HERE.
Please reply in this thread with "tweeted", "done", etc. to encourage others, and please bookmark the #Fight4Poker plan on Twitter HERE. Thanks for participating!

Done.

Why just Kentucky residents for McConnell?

But to paraphrase that old Animal Farm adage, some parts of the puzzle are more equal than others. On Wednesday, the Dallas News ran a story about how Adelson had “come to the rescue” of the campaign of Republican Senate hopeful David Dewhurst. A pro-Dewhurst SuperPAC raised a total $280k during May and June, of which $250k came from Adelson. Should Dewhurst be sworn in come November, do you think his first vote will be one that bites the hand that fed him?

This kind of stuff makes me want to throw up. The guy who makes billions from gambing both here and in China (guess he has no problem with human rights violations or destruction of the environment as long as he can make money) wants to keep us from playing poker under the guise of "protecting the children".

It used to geo-block non-Kentuckians. It's open now, so we can all post away! :D

That's what we're up against.

The government’s bad bet against online poker

While our nation’s leaders discuss how they will fix our economy and grow jobs, it is infuriating to know that a Maryland native who recently won big in the 2012 World Series of Poker has been forced to live in Canada because of our government’s outlawing of online poker [“Md. college dropout wins a million bucks in World Series of Poker,” Metro, July 15].

By prohibiting online play, our country’s misguided laws are driving honest taxpayers to other countries, where they can use their skills to earn a living. Instead of restricting our freedoms, Congress should license and regulate online poker so that the revenue and jobs it creates could contribute to our country’s welfare.

Larry Maske, Coltons Point, Md.
The writer is Maryland state director of the Poker Players Alliance.
