Hey, I’m new to online poker and wondering what’s better to start with: cash games or tournaments? Cash games seem easier to jump in and out, but tournaments look more fun with big prizes. What’s the best way to begin?

20+ year player. I enjoy both so no reason not to do both. When I'm playing a lot and grinding....I'm definition of grinding isn't the same as regs definition as I'm only a rec/hobby player. My schedule is or would be as follows:
1) Week days are for cash full-ring.
2) MTT's I save for weekends because that's when the highest GTD's are and I like longer blind level MTT's. I only have that kind a time on weekends(rarely time thru the week).
3) Monday's sometimes Tuesdays I'm studying and doing hand reviews.

Some guys I'm sure will be a bit more aggressive shot-taking and trying to move up. Nothing wrong with that long as ones comfortable doing that. I've done it in the past. As a newer thought I'd stick pretty close to my numbers. At least till you have some experience, find out where you're skill level is and what you're comfortable with losing/gambling. Everyone is different.

Here's how I'd start. I'd deposit $50-$100. Start at 2nl full-ring cash. When I had $200-$250 and I'm comfortable and beating 2nl I'd then move up too 5nl full-ring. The next step is when you make $500 and are comfortable beating 5nl. Once you got that $500 bankroll now I'd start playing $3-$5 MTT's on the weekends. I'd stay playing 10nl full-ring cash during the week.

Also why you're growing your bankroll at the start playing 2nl(if this is the way you decide to go) be studying for MTT's so you're ready when/if you reach $500.

This fits my schedule, games I like to play and am good at.

Cheers!!!

Привет! Я новичок в онлайн-покере и не знаю, с чего лучше начать: с кэш-игр или турниров ? В кэш-игры проще играть и переходить, но турниры с крупными призами выглядят интереснее. С чего лучше начать?
Hey, start with freerolls!!!!

For me cash games are best for learning the fundamentals of the game including how to play the turn and river, because stacks are usually deeper. As you say yourself, they are also more flexible. SnGs can be a reasonable alternative but not large MTTs.

Welcome to the poker world! 😊 Honestly, it depends on your style. Cash games are great if you like flexibility — you can join or leave anytime, and they’re perfect for learning the basics with small stakes. Tournaments, on the other hand, are super exciting and give you the chance to win big from a small buy-in, but they require a lot of time and patience. If your main goal is consistent money, cash games are usually better, even though they still come with risks. My advice: start with cash games to build your skills, then jump into tournaments when you’re ready. Good luck!

Depends on your bank roll basically. Since you are basicallY new to Poker, I would suggest Tourney as you may have beginners luck as well.

There's no set rule.
It depends on which suits you best, especially when it comes to available time. Playing poker requires time, and it has to be quality time.
Tournaments require a lot of time, usually three hours or more.
Cash games, on the other hand, give you the freedom to enter and exit at any time. But in the case of cash games, be careful not to rush into hands you shouldn't, as this will be detrimental to your bankroll.

Another thing you should be aware of is your game mentality if you're going to split your time between playing both games. You can't play cash games with a tournament mentality and vice versa. You must be able to separate things clearly and apply the correct mentality depending on what you're playing.
