Hey CardChat family, 💬

Lately, I've been dealing with what seems like an endless string of table defeats. 🎲 No matter how well I'm training, studying ranges, or following bankroll management, it often ends the same way losing the hands expected to win.

This is not just about badbeats (although they can also be painful 💔), but also about moral damage. Sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in this vicious circle:

Once I play consistently, but I still fail.

The next day I try again, telling myself, “The variance will level out,” but the losses keep rising. 📉

I know that long-term results, math, and discipline are important in poker. But I can't deny that constant losses not only test your bankroll but also your spirit.

👉 So my question to all of you is How are you personally dealing with these downturns?
Do you take breaks? Are you studying more? Upgrading to lower stakes or freerolls to shift your mindset?

Sometimes I remind myself that poker is a marathon, not a sprint 🏃‍♂️💨. But at the same time, watching your efforts fail over and over again can be overwhelming.

“Failure is not the opposite of winning, it is a step towards victory.” 🌟

I'd love to hear your experience and advice — maybe your words can help me (and others here) overcome this storm and grow stronger. 💪♠️

When I face constant defeats, I try to stay calm and focus on the process, not just the results. I review my hands, learn from mistakes, and remind myself that variance is part of the game. Taking short breaks also helps me reset mentally so I can come back sharper and avoid tilt.

This is quite common. Now, how you deal with this variance situation is a personal matter. Some prefer to take a break, others prefer to understand where they are making mistakes and study, and there are also those who lower their buy-in level. So, see what works best for YOU. Identify what needs to be done. Test, test, and test the possibilities.

Playing CC freerolls can help you avoid that feeling of losing your BR.

How can you imagine achieving an endless string of table victories?

One good way to make this happen is to study and improve your knowledge. Especially for the situations and scenarios that you are losing.

No matter how experienced you are - you can always learn or re-learn something new.

To deal with poker variance, you must accept it as a natural part of the game, manage your bankroll to absorb downswings, and increase your volume of play over the long term to allow your skill edge to overcome short-term luck. Mentally, this involves focusing on long-term results rather than single sessions, developing discipline to stick to your strategy, and taking breaks to avoid tilt. Strategically, players can reduce variance by playing in softer games, employing more solid, straightforward poker, and tracking their results to identify and correct mistakes.

Withdrawing my bankroll works pretty well for me.
It's a great option to withdraw your balance before the variance takes it away from you. If you usually play in only one or two or even three rooms, move to another room where you don't play often. A fresh start also helps.

For me, constant defeats are part of the learning curve in poker. At first, they were really frustrating, but over time I realized that each loss gives me valuable feedback about my decisions and mindset. Instead of focusing only on results, I try to analyze the hands I played, spot mistakes, and see what I could’ve done differently.
I also remind myself that variance is real — even the best players go through downswings. What matters is staying disciplined, keeping my bankroll safe, and continuing to study. With the right attitude, defeats become less of a burden and more of an opportunity to learn.

You are basically a freeroll player, so you dont actually have any losses. In fact you are up a whopping $1.02 over 1.820 games. For that reason its difficult to say, what the real problem is here other than maybe a feeling, that you are wasting your time? Which to be honest you are. The solution is to make a deposit of at least $50 and start playing 2NL cash games or $1 SnGs. The latter require changing to a different site, since 888 dont offer SnGs any more.

This month has been the worse for me, I've been bubbling most of my tournaments right before the money. Losing all ins when I'm way ahead, yesterday I loss with AA again 10 10 and later lost with KK against 77, my opponents rivering sets, all this happened within 3 minutes. Later got knocked out in another MTT final table, lost a huge chip leader pot, my set got crack my a river flush. It is what it is, just need to keep in playing my best player, I can't control the runouts.
