As others have said, it depends on a lot of variables. One of the most important is the effective stack size. If pot is 1.000, and the effective stack has 1.700 more left behind, then you dont want to bet 1.000 and only leave 700 for the river, when the pot is going to be 3.000, if the opponent call. So then you can either jam for 1.700 and make it a 2-street hand.
Or the more common line would be to bet something like 500-600, so that the pot will be 2.000-2.200, if the opponent call, and you will then have another 1.100-1.200 left for the river. In that way you can bet, and the opponent can call, without any of you committing the rest of your stack to the pot. And this is important, because we want to get called by worse. If for instance you have
