Do you respect the finesse of engineering?

Nowadays everything needs computer chips and electricity but back in the day you could have simply gambled in the light of a candle.

The old slot machines are marvels of engineering. Springs, levers, incredible mechanics and all the energy needed to run the device came from the player.

In this video we are taken through the insides of a 1930's slot machine.

When I was a kid the mechanical era was mainly passed by, but not completely.

We had these (y)

Pajatso2.jpg

PAJATSO or as some called them - Jasso.

A fully mechanical device where a player enters a coin into the slot on top of the machine and gravity moves it about 9 inches below to the point where you can see that washer on the right. Then a player hits the washer with his finger and tries to move the coin in one the black slots seen under the glass.

Outside lottery this was my first introduction to gambling and I loved it.

Have you played with mechanical games? What was it and where?

I would love to buy one of the old machines with the pull handle. They are the most fun and I would save money.

Machines change, time flies and but one thing remains constant- Gambling. I reckon, 50-60 years down the line, AI would comol take over the casinos and our machines will be outdated big time.

What a clockwork! You truly can call them marvels.
Looking at the inside of that thing made me think about how smart people were. Did the person who made the 1st machine had a full conception in their head? Or did they start making something else and stumbled on it? Did they have the intention of making a gambling device to begin with? I guess we'll never know.

As to your question, no, I have never seen or used a mechanical device ever.
