I disagree about the non players as who knows why they are not at the table especially if they have bought in. I have been late a few times. Deep late registration and rebuys....GRRRRR

You can always make instant calls/raises or even all-ins to speed up the game ...

I suggest that the purpose is to bring an end to the tournament more quickly - so the players can then enter another!
