You don't have to be disappointed and especially nervous! What you want will come in time. Trust, patience and they are professional players who lose tournaments and do not win any for a long time!!

You shouldn't lose hope. I also waited a long time before I managed to win my first tournament.

Probably it's because u're playing freerolls. Players don't care... variance is wider. Luck is more important than skill. You need to play real money games if you're skileld enough, also low buy-in MTTs like 1-2$ aren't really good too, try 5 or more. Game is different at $11 buy-ins, and it's even more different at $55 buy-ins and even more different at 215+ buy-ins.

We're never here to win tournaments, but yes to be profitable

Exactly, my dream is that a genie will appear from a lamp and tell me that I will not be the 1st place never more, but I will be in the ITM in every tournament with 2 or more paid positions I decide to play...

I've played more than 500 tournaments and never won any of them I always make the top 100 top 50 top 8 top 15 top 10 top 200 and top 9 I never win any tournament I'm already very annoyed with this game I always lose to the famous bad beats.

Completely normal, my friend! Just keep studying even more to get even closer to the ITM; you don't need to care about the 1st place, it may come over the time, but even professionals are not counting on this...

To be honest, there is some tournaments you can be more profitable without being the first place (bounty tournaments and, especially, the "total K.O." version of it)...

you have to think about the style of play in the final phase which is different from the opening phases....whats the right adjustment to make?

500 tournaments may not be enough for your variance. Keep playing responsibly and you'll be fine.

if he is unable to win in freerolls he will also not succeed on higher levels. What u describe is basically "move up where they respect ur raises" and it does not make any sense.

Yes some tournaments on higher levels are maybe more pleasant to play because players play less bingo but that does not mean they are more easy to win 😅

A decent player playing in freerolls adapts and books win after win playing them despite all the bingo players.

How many players are in these tournaments usually?

Perhaps you are playing too much to cash and not enough to win, you have to be prepared to bust inorder to get enough value throughout the tournament so you can make very deep runs.

Also maybe you are tryig to play to a level that the games don't require. AT micros and freerolls you should rarely bluff, unless you have a very very good reason. Of course semi bluff and C bet etc is fine, but don't go wild. Just bet heavily for value. If your opponent doesn't have anything they fold regardless of how much you bet, if they have a decent hand like Top Pair, they likely call regardless. Don't slow play your big hands, value bet!!

It’s rough putting in the volume and getting deep consistently but not quite closing one out — especially when it feels like bad beats keep robbing you at the worst times but if you're frequently finishing in the top 50/100 out of hundreds or thousands, that actually means you’re playing pretty well overall. You're just hitting the brutal part of tournament variance — closing a tourney requires both skill and a run of good fortune at the final table.

If you’re getting to top 10s and final tables often but not winning, your deep-game strategy might need tweaks. Are you getting too tight near the end? Shoving too light? Or maybe just running cold — but these spots are worth reviewing.

I understand you, it's happened to me, but don't get discouraged, analyze your game and see what you can improve, what is the most common mistake you make and try to correct it, keep trying and don't give up.

I know a lot of poker players who tried but couldnt adapt to freerolls.
One of them is my brother, he used to be active cardschat member, but he didn't find any point in playing freerolls, even considering that CardsChat games are usually tighter with much fewer players than public freerolls. I have many more examples, I mean players who I know in person... and in my case I also clearly see that freerolls are affecting my money games.

I mean lets take for example pokerstars, check my brothers top results for 1-22 buy-ins

PSPS

So the point is that my brother can play good poker for real money in MTTs with thousands of entries even if it's micro buy-ins $1.1 to $22, but he absolutely fails in freerolls with 80-120 players. Because there is nothing to lose and not much to win in these freerolls, so ranges are wider, variance is much wider too, in general outcome is much more luck dependant. It's not the type of game he is used to play. That's probably the case of the topic starter.

Also in my initial message I've mentioned "if you're skilled enough" cause TS might be losing in freerolls just because of lack of skills. So if he's skilled enough, but still losing in freerolls then good idea is just to ignore such games and play for real money. It works for skilled poker players. Most of the players that I know in person are performing very well at GGpoker rarely playing any freerolls there, unless it's all-in format.

Also... if you'll check records, then you'll find out that like 90% of CardsChat freeroll regulars are playing freerolls only, so statistically speaking topic starter has 10% or less chance to start playing for some decent money. So basically good choice is to deposit some $100-200, test his skills and depending on the outcome either forget about poker at all or start playing a better game. Because you know... he played 500 tourneys, that's a lot of time, any job pays better than zero outcome out of 500 mtts.

Play less tournaments and focus on regular play, hence set only few tournaments that you will participate. On regular play keep money in flow.

Keep studying, this game is very hard to win, in big tournaments everything has to go right you have to survive luck, bad beats, and flips, so it’s not easy. But just think how cool it will feel when you do win!

I totally feel your frustration — it’s tough grinding through hundreds of tournaments, constantly making deep runs, and never sealing the win. That kind of consistency shows real skill, though — top 50, top 10, final tables — you're doing a lot right.

The variance in tournaments can be brutal, especially with bad beats at the worst moments. But making it deep that often means you’re giving yourself real chances. Keep reviewing key hands, especially those late-game spots — sometimes it’s just small adjustments that make the difference between top 10 and a win.
Don’t give up. You’re closer than you think.

Have you tried playing cash or spins or some other type of tournaments like omaha or pko?

How large were the fields? If they were 1.000 players on average, you are not supposed to have won a tournament after playing 500 of them. You might, but the most common outcome over this sample size is 0 victories. Which by the way is the reason, why cash games, SnGs or at most small field MTTs (less than 300 entries) are the preferred game types for bankroll and skill building. So I suggest, that you play 500 9-45 man On-Demand games on PokerStars. If you have still not won a tournament after that, then maybe there is a problem, we can talk about.

That's relative.
Yesterday I've played one $22 (888) and one $25 (coinpoker) and at both there were a plenty of fishes

Poker is not just a game of endurance. You also need patience and discipline. If you have serious goals, you should understand that it will take years of hard and persistent daily work to achieve good results.
