Really, I won't deny that the luck factor is important to get far in a tournament, especially those with a lot of players, but relying too much on luck is asking to be eliminated early, I think you have to be more patient.

Luck and skill are always together, sometimes one or the other influences, you can have all the knowledge in the world, be the best and/or the most skillful of all, but at some point in the tournament you will have a stroke of luck, so if say that luck is for losers, that in poker there is no luck, whatever they say there will always be a bit of luck

An excellent pro once once said (sorry cant remember who) in order to survive a major tourney you must survive a bad beat and suck out once.

For me giving value to the suckout is super important. That is, just because it was gained in such a manner doesn't mean the winnings are to be treated with disrespect.

Luck is super important. However, the best players know what hands are playable in what situations and stack depths. By playing the correct hands in the right situations they are paid the most when their hands do hit, and they also know how to lose the least amount of chips when they are beat. So you need luck and skill. Or a LOT of luck.

For me luck in the tournament is important. You can be the best in the science of poker if you lack luck for nothing you have all the necessary knowledge.

Obviously pretty important... Even with your best play, you will be in at least a few situations where it is basically a coin flip. Just recently I called a jam preflop with KK, the other player was about my stack sizes - he shows 4 - 6 suites, hits 4-4-5 on the flop and you might guess the rest...
''100% skill and 50% luck'' as Phil Hellmuth said;)

Any game is subject to dispersion, but it should be understood that the stronger the influence of luck on the result, the more spectacular and promising the game becomes for each individual player. This creates a healthy competition where weaker players can win single matches due to favorable circumstances, although in the long run the strongest will always be the winner.

Most tournaments will involve a significant amount of luck as you will have to shove at least a few times to win

Well, I play for hobby but as far as I've learned luck is the last thing any player should count on.

If luck was a big factor in poker it wouldn't be considered a mind game.

Of course there is down and upswing but as long as you play taking into consideration all the variables to increase your chances of winning, which takes a lot of knowledge, study and practice, you'll be a winning player in the long run.

To a player be profitable in long term, having skill is enough. To win a tournament you will be in coin flips a lot of times and avoid some bad beats. So, I think you need both skill and luck to win a tournament.

Luck plays a significant role in winning a tournament, especially in the short term. Poker involves an element of chance, with the distribution of cards impacting the outcome of hands. However, in the long run, skill and strategy have a greater influence. As a newbie player, I hope to make better decisions, manage risks, and exploit opportunities, ultimately minimizing the impact of luck and increasing my chances of success.

“Without luck, you will always be a loser,” said an ancient 1st-century BC poker-obsessed philosopher. To be honest, I don't remember his name 🙃

The variance of long tournaments especially is huge, so there will be hands that you will depend on a little bit of luck!🍀🍀🍀

Luck is really a factor, but it is part of life. So if you try your best and play the game you have more chances to get a smile from luck!

Very important!

These black eights should have been in my hands for the second time, and not in my opponent's hands - then it would have turned out very beautifully! )) :D

Luck means more that I won by luck because at the final table I was over-up and I was dealt cards very often

"Poker is 100% skill and 50% luck." - Phil Hellmuth

But seriously: MTTs have a sick variance. To win a big tournament you often have to not only win several coinflips but also win when you have all your money in bad (not on purpose of course). Since it is so important to get good cards when the blinds get big the luck factor is much larger than in cash games.

Look at some of the winners in the wsop Main Event during the poker boom. Some are very good players and some are pretty terrible. Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang sure had a lot of luck at the right time for example.

In tourneys with huge fields anyone that gets to the final table obviously has gotten quite lucky. Big hands held up , draws came in at the right time , flips were won , and probably a few suckouts also, etc etc .
