A topic that's always intrigued me and always comes to mind when someone complains about not being able to play well or be profitable is Tournament Selection.

How are tournaments chosen on a daily basis?
How do you choose tournaments during a series season?
How do you manage this?

Tournament selection sometimes generates controversy because many players end up wanting to play in the tournaments with the highest prize pools possible. In this case, they're not the only ones who want that slice of the pie, so we're faced with the issue of higher variance...

I hope this topic and our research help make this topic clearer, especially for beginning players.

I usually analyze every tournament I play, from freerolls to the most expensive ones on my schedule.
Some lessons and videos I watched on social media and streamers' channels focused heavily on this point, and I really saw the difference it makes when we pay attention to it.
And nowadays, to make this easier, we even have a tool called Lobbyze that helps a lot with this study.

My rules are:
  • Define the average buy-in I'm willing to play;
  • Tournaments with small fields;
  • I play any site where the previous rule applies;
  • Game times;
  • Tournament duration;
