I try to play a few freerolls a week but I find it really difficult to stay in and play more than the first hour. My good hands seem to be matched all the time, or suffer bad beats. I try to play medium hands but nothing hits. Trying to push is hopeless cause it seems as people call with anything at any time and wins the lottery on river. Suggestions?

freerolls have a lot of variance, especially during the early all-in stages where everyone is jamming / calling jams with very wide ranges.

you should still play the very top of your range during the early, all-in stages of freerolls. something like 1010+, ak because they'll still do well overall but it's going to be high variance. for example, aa vs 8 opponents who play a 100% range is only winning 25% of the time. you still have the best equity preflop but you still lose 3/4 times on average. however, when you do hold, you win a big pot and your (hopefully) deep run will make up for the times you bust out.

don't worry about playing marginal hands like j10s, kjo, 33, etc unless you can see a flop cheaply. you don't want to be calling all-ins with marginal hands because you aren't winning enough times to make up for the losses and you'll likely find much better equity spots to get your stack in later in the freeroll. you also don't need to push with anything less than the top of your range in the early stages because you're likely getting called and you want the equity advantage.

if you need to fold everything for the first few blind levels, until the all-ins die down, do it. you'll still have a stack to play with and you can still do very well.

freerolls are very unpredictable, in this type of tournament it is difficult for almost everyone at the same table to play calmly or appropriately, you have to take risks and follow your instinct to the maximum

You need to remember poker is a long-term game. Going 30 and 40 events without a cash will happen and also you only cash 1 in9 or 10 times depending on the game your in. Play your game and the cashes will come.

In freerolls, players often play with junk, this is a common thing. You have two options, you either continue to play in freerolls or not, it's your choice and decision you have to make yourself :)

In the first half hour of a freeroll the most important thing is survival. You most avoid bluffs, there are players that will call with a pair of two or K high. But if you have a really strong hand, don' play value, just shove. The chances that someone will call you with J7o is high. But ne prepared. Sometimes they win with pure junk.
So, the best strategy in the beginning of these games is play tight. Let the maniacs kill each others.
After that, maybe you will be behind a lot of players. But be patient, play your best, and you will get good results.

Don't let bad results affect how you feel: It's important to keep a positive attitude and not let bad results or bad beats negatively influence your decision to play and improve.
Ultimately, poker is a game where a combination of luck and skill matters. Be patient, keep learning and developing, and over time you will be able to improve your game and achieve better results.

Since the entrance does not require payment, most people do not take the game seriously, because there are no risks. Therefore, you should not pay attention to how opponents play, so as not to spoil your game.It is possible to win, albeit small, but the first money and even unwind from scratch.

Try to win the highest amount possible on good hands and avoid losing money on weak/medium hands

I probably understand what you're talking about better than anyone else. By nature, I am a very emotional and gambling person, and sometimes I force myself to play secretly, discipline helps - believe me, you have to wait, yes, sometimes you have to fold and avoid contact, but that's what game strategies are developed for. It's not for nothing that pros recommend learning how to switch gears when you play your hands - this works both at micro limits and above. Patience, my friend, and discipline and all will be well.
