Just playing large field mtts probably means you won't be that comfortable when you get to fts and the big pay jumps. So playing a few smaller mtts in conjunction with the larger field is probably a good idea.

One step further, you could adjust your buy ins to take factor in the variance. So $3 for sit and gos, $2 for small mtts and $1 for large 500 plus mtts

My favourite tournaments are Sunday tournaments when a huge number of people play and when there are huge prizes. These are the tournaments I usually prefer. But sometimes I can play a few small Sit & Go tournaments on weekdays.
