When playing multi-table tournaments, one of the hardest skills to master is adapting to changing table dynamics. A table full of loose-passive players will require a completely different approach compared to a table with several aggressive regulars.

For example, early in the tournament with deep stacks, you can afford to see more flops and exploit weaker opponents who limp too often. But once you move to a new table where everyone is 3-betting aggressively, your opening ranges need to tighten, and you should look for better spots to fight back with 4-bets or well-timed bluffs.

Another key adjustment is recognizing stack sizes. A table where multiple players have 15–25bb stacks creates a lot of push-fold pressure, which drastically changes how wide you can open from late positions. Meanwhile, if most players have 60–80bb, postflop play becomes more important, and your edge comes from understanding ranges, position, and board textures.

I’m curious how you all approach these situations:

Do you change your opening sizes depending on the table aggression?

How do you handle switching from a soft passive table to a hyper-aggressive one?

Do you actively track how each opponent’s stack size changes your strategy?

I’d love to hear how others make adjustments in real time during tournaments.

Yes, that's why I enjoy playing MTTs more than cash games. I enjoy the different moments tournaments offer; everything influences your decision.
