$10 Tournament, $5,000 Prize Pool… and I Busted Right Before the Money 😭

Hi CardChat family! 🙌

Last night I decided to try my hand at a $10 buy-in tournament with a $5,000 prize pool. The structure was good, the blinds were high, and I really felt this was going to be “my way”. Do you know what it's like when things are going well? 🤞

But of course... poker had other plans. Right before the bubble, I took QQ . I was so excited to finally get a chance to pull myself together and win prizes. Someone is 3-bet, I'm pushing, he demolished KK ... and yes, you already know how this story ended. 💔

The Wonderful Queen wasn't on the board and I was suddenly out of the game. So not only did I lose my $10, but I also lost my nerve for a second, and... let's just say, my poor finger was the one that suffered the most. 😂 (I'll show you a photo, don't worry—scars from poker battles!)

It's hard when you play well and still get out of such a difficult situation. Dispersions sometimes don't care about your dreams. But hey, this is poker, right? 🎲

So I wanted to ask: how do you deal with moments like this? Do you take a break, laugh, or just keep working?

At least I have a funny story (and a whining thumb) that will remind me that this game is about overcoming pain and chasing fame in equal measure. 💪

Вчера вечером я решил попробовать свои силы в турнире с бай-ином $10 и призовым фондом $5000. Структура была хорошая, блайнды высокие, и я действительно чувствовал, что это будет «мой путь». Знаете, каково это, когда всё идёт хорошо? 🤞

Но, конечно... у покера были другие планы. Прямо перед бабблом я взял QQ . Я так рад был наконец-то взять себя в руки и выиграть призы. Кто-то 3-бетит, я пушу, он разнес KK ... и да, вы уже знаете, чем закончилась эта история. 💔

Чудесной Королевы на доске не было, и я внезапно выбыл из игры. Так что я не только потерял свои 10 долларов, но и на секунду потерял самообладание, и... скажем так, больше всего пострадал мой бедный палец. 😂 (Я покажу вам фото, не волнуйтесь — шрамы от покерных баталий!)

Тяжело, когда играешь хорошо и всё равно выпутываешься из такой сложной ситуации. Дисперсии порой не заботятся о твоих мечтах. Но, эй, это же покер, верно? 🎲

Вот я и хотел спросить: как вы справляетесь с такими моментами? Делаете перерыв, смеётесь или просто продолжаете работать?

По крайней мере, у меня есть забавная история (и ноющий большой палец), которая будет напоминать мне, что эта игра — о преодолении боли и погоне за славой в равной степени. 💪

Were you short stacked with QQ? Sounds like maybe you overplayed your hand against a 3-bet. Either way, live and learn or so the saying goes.

If not cashing in a single tournament due to a standard cooler like running QQ into KK preflop upsets you, then you are either not bankrolled for the games, you play, or mentally ready to play poker. My reaction to a situation like this is something like "god d... thats a bummer", and then I shift my focus back to the other tournaments, I have running. Thats pretty much it.

Or even with a stack much deeper than that. Its pretty rare, that we are not looking to get it in preflop with QQ, and that would mostly be in cash games or very early in tournaments, when we have a 100BB stack. Or maybe occationally with crazy multiway action on a final table, when there is a huge ICM-penalty for getting involved.

Just a cooler, it's sad that it happens in a higher buy in for you, but as you said, this is poker. Shit happens.

Try to not get angry, and play a new tournament 🙂

At first, I struggled a lot with situations like this. I was upset and nervous that I wasn't lucky, but over time you get used to it . It still annoys me, but I get over it quickly and the time will come when it will be the other way around.
