A few months a go, I came across an interesting hand that made me think too hard - I couldn't figure it out ...

Im just a poker novice but was teaching my younger brother how to play the basics - well, I got confused at this hand....

Who wins ? :confused:
[V=Diamonds, (v)=Hearts, + = clubs, ^ = spade]

Flop= 9+, 10+, J+, A^, A(v)
Hand1= 9(v), 5(v)
Hand2= 9+, 5+

Hand3 (Theoretical) 9V, 5V

Besides all the technicallities - maybe im playing wrong, etc. etc., but, still, the basic theory of who wins with this TYPE of hand confused me.

Who would win, and WHY ?

Cool cool,
Thanks for talking. Peace.

My guess is one of those 9s is supposed to be the 9 of spades, so I will go with that.

In holdem this would be a split pot everyone would have 2 pair 9's and A's with a J kicker

who wins?

id say check that deck to see why there are (2) 9s of clubs!!!lmao if that player has 9club and 5 club he wins with the flush.. racefanswife

but if he has 9 of spades like i suspect then it is a split they all have 2 pair and the same kicker racefanswife

if he has 9 spades like i suspectr then its a split they share the same kicker and 2 pair racefanswife

split pot if we assume a different 9+

.....or maybe they play with a pinochle (sp?) deck??
they use 9s in that don't they??

LOL

Not to be a smart aleck, Ballzach, but when I was learning the game myself a couple of years ago, one of the things that helped me out a bunch in reading poker books and chatting about poker online was learning the poker notation. It's really simple, and pretty obvious, actually...at least it is in English. Not sure what impact various languages may have on notation. If someone knows, please fill me in.

c = clubs
d = diamonds
s = spades
h = hearts

So, if I post "Ace of hearts", I would use Ah. "Seven of diamonds" = 7d.

The only thing that can get a little confusing is the alternate use of "s" to denote "suited" cards. So if you see "AKs", it's Ace-King suited, not Ace-King spades. Took me a while to figure that one out. If someone wanted to get specific about suits, they would post "As Ks".

So, again, hope I'm not insulting your intelligence here, but I understand no one is born knowing this stuff. I wasn't, anyway. :icon_thum

Yeah all the poker notations youre using is giving me a headache, im subject to endless barrage of notations I have everyday so I dont need anymore, therefore I didnt bother to look at what you had. But stick to Rammer's notations, thats what every poker player uses in text. It'll make yours and our lives easier. Cheers.
