Hi,
I am a beginner in playing Texas-Holdem. A few of us were playing the other evening and a hand came up and no one could agree on who the winner was. Some help would really be appreciated, so if it happens again we will know what to do.
On the Board was 10 10 8 8 6

Hand 1 had Q 4
Hand 2 had 9 6
Who would win this had.
Thanks in advance.

Hand 1 wins because of the higher kicker. You make the best 5 card hand. 3 pair mean nothing. The hand with the queen wins. If you need a better explanation feel free to say I will try and go deeper, or ummm more in depth

It count the five best cards which are here :

10-10-8-8-Q

against

10-10-8-8-9

your 6 don't count.

Hope it help you a little....

Yep just the best 5 cards total. If, for instance, the board was: TT886 and the players had: Q9 and Q7, then it would be a split pot since both players have a best hand of: TT88Q

Don't fall prey to this one either:

On the board: 2 2 2 2 9
Hand 1 had A K
Hand 2 had 9 7

Hand 1 wins this because of the Ace kicker. 2 2 2 2 A is better than 2 2 2 2 9 (even though Hand 2 had a second 9)

I had a similar hand like that a long time ago... I took down a huge pot because I did know the rules. I had 2 pair, and my friend had 2 pair except I had a higher 2 pair. He actually ended up with 3 pair (lol) if it was possible that's what he would have had. He knew that my 2 pair was better than his 2 pair, but assumed that since he had 3 pair (hahaha) he would take down the pot.

:banghead:

He was kicking himself in the ass the rest of the night, but it was a good laugh. Oh yeah... and a buttload of money.

Hand 1 wins obviously. What was the other guy thinking that 6's are better than 8's? Come on.
