I know this forum is all about poker, but I’ve seen a lot of poker players getting into sports betting lately. For beginners, it can be just as exciting – and just as dangerous – as poker if you don’t have a strategy.

Here are some key mistakes I’ve noticed new bettors make:

Betting with emotions instead of logic (favorite team bias!)

Chasing losses by increasing bet sizes

Ignoring bankroll management completely

Betting on too many games at once

If you’re just starting out, here are a few tips I’ve found useful:
Start small and set a clear bankroll just for betting.
Focus on value bets, not just picking winners.
Never bet on a sport you don’t understand.
Track your results like you would with poker sessions.

For football there are so many types of bets...

I think the best approach maybe a slow build with small bets...playing teams that are favs and bets on Both teams to score in the case of highscoring squads.

Won about 75pds with a 1pd bet on 8 eredivisie teams...eredivise seems to be somewhat consistent.

Hey! All solid advice. I would add:
- focus on seeking value in odds not on analysis or chance of your pick winning.
- if you win consistently, you will be dealt with (cutting max bet size, closing your account under a made-up reason, etc.), think how to deal with this.

By the way, could you tell about you experience value betting?
