Hey everyone!
I’ve noticed that a lot of poker players are also into sports betting, and it got me thinking:
Which one do you think requires more skill – poker or sports betting?
Both share some similarities:
bankroll management is key in both.
You need to understand odds and probabilities.
Emotional control is a must to avoid tilt or chasing losses.
But there are big differences too:
In poker, you control many decisions and can outplay opponents.
In sports betting, once you place your bet, you have no control over the outcome.
Personally, I feel poker has a bigger skill edge, because you can study strategy and adjust in real-time. Sports betting feels more like finding value and predicting variance over the long term.
What do you think?
Do you treat sports betting like poker – with strict bankroll rules and analysis?
Or do you see it as more of a gamble and just for fun?

These two areas have some things in common, but they also have significant differences. Overall, however, I believe that skills are needed in both areas, as are experience, bankroll management, and, of course, patience, discipline, perseverance, and a willingness to work hard.

The answer to this question is poker. It's not even really up for discussion as you can make decisions in game as a poker player. In sports betting you have to hope for a certain outcome.

I don't know, but i feel like sports betting is inferior to poker in all senses, it requires less skill, is more random, and there are much more less guys who made a considerable amout of money by sports betting.

But then again, it's just how i see that.

A comparison far from reality, Poker is undoubtedly much more about skill, knowledge, patience and technique.

Skill on sports betting? Only if you are playing on the match :ROFLMAO:

Poker requires skill and luck.

Sports betting requires past data analysis and hope.

Unpopular opinion (seemingly): sports betting requires more skill and knowledge (depending on a given sport), because you're playing against odds. I would say skill there is not just your ability to analyze matches, but more beating the suggested odds and knowing how to get your winnings. In poker you're playing against other people many of whom are far from perfect, they don't have huge budgets, analysts teams assisting them to beat you, not to mention they can't limit your ability to play and get your winnings... Even a very mediocre poker player can win (some) money consistently, but not a mediocre sports bettor as your operating on very tight margins that you have to find first. Profiting from sports betting is MUCH harder.

Agree with this mostly. Although obviously past performance does not guarantee future performance, look at football/soccer. In poker, math is consistent at any given time. In sports you're working with a new situation every single bet.

Poker requires more skill than betting. You need to watch the games, understand each player's abilities, the coach's competence and the team's overall ambitions. And yes, in poker, everything depends on you, while in betting, it depends on the success of the team you bet on. :)
