Champions League 2024-25: New Format

Starting in the 2024-25 season, the Champions League will adopt a new "Swiss model" format:

• 36 teams instead of 32, playing in a single league instead of groups.
• Each team plays 8 games (4 home, 4 away) against different opponents.
• The top 8 teams qualify directly for the Round of 16.
• Teams ranked 9th-24th enter a playoff round to secure the remaining spots.
• More games: Up to 17 matches for finalists (versus 13 now).
• 4 extra spots include places for top leagues and champions from smaller nations.

This format aims to boost competition and increase high-profile matches early on.

Loving the new format, has introduced greater importance to each match! Later matches will be big to avoid extra games in second tier.

It happened out of the blue. Someone decided to experiment with the format of the matches. Now we see a league with a huge table.
Imagine if the 8th and 9th place teams scored the same number of points and did not play against each other. To identify the best, they will need to count the difference between goals scored and conceded and other indicators. The clubs in the top 8 will rest, while others will move to the playoff round and put their players under extra strain and more matches.

Barcelona or Arsenal have a good chances to lift the trophy , but i dont like the new format, old one was better .

The new format is completely boring. The old format was more interesting. It would be better to make 2 group stages and the Playoffs, which would start with the 1/4 finals (like in MLB) with a series of up to 3 or 4 wins.

.many matches in the new set up are hardly worth watching, but it seems that every week at least one game will feature 2 heavyweights, which is great ! some of the big squads are off to a bad start .... gotta love it !

The teams that played carelessly are forced to meet in a new format in the 1/16 finals. There was no such stage before.

I like the Swiss format. Chess olympiad also follows the Swiss format. Every round is tough except the first round. In previous format some teams get lucky with the draw.

A new format that is being very interesting, many very entertaining and high-level matches that with the previous format we only saw those duels after the round of 16, a lot of opportunity for small teams to prove themselves in Europe and the world

it is good, although i'll miss the old format. the thing that doesn't quite fit for me is that there's not much reward for getting 1st-2nd. It's basically the same than finishing 8th.

How about adding more league game but cutting the playoffs to one off games with the team finishing higher getting home advantage.

I think new format is good, but i don't like that eliminated teams don't go to Europa league.
