Volume of players is surely a motive but at pro level I can't imagine they encounter many recreational players. When you look at high stakes Mtts , most people are pros.
But there are still some recreational players in those high stakes games, because otherwise nobody could consistently make money. If there are only pros in a particular game, then most of them will be losing, and since their only motive is profit, they will eventually stop playing or move down. I guess, this is basically, how every online game eventually die out from above.

What is your opinion on the fact that one of the largest online poker platforms in the world has decided to remove free tournaments from its lobby?
I take it all in stride. I think the days of pokerstars are over. New leaders are emerging, and PokerStars is gradually but surely losing market share. I think that by 2030, this site will either be taken over by other more serious players or it will simply be closed.

I think this is another mistake of their management. And this is another step towards oblivion. PokerStars is a project that is already in the past, it has no development prospects.

I think this depends on which country you are playing from. Here in Greece there is freeroll almost every hour.

I think this decision will backfire. Removing free tournaments will likely reduce interest in the platform, especially among new or recreational players who use freerolls as a way to get started or stay engaged.

My guess is that they’ll eventually reverse this decision, once they see a drop in traffic or community engagement. Freerolls aren’t just about money — they help build loyalty and activity in the long run.

I’m okay with no freerolls, but I do want to play on a site where lots of people are playing.

They do still have free tourneys, they have the power path as one example, in any case
most free tourneys are a waste of time, who wants to spend 4 hours playing a lot of fish
just to win, if you are lucky $5?

That’s actually a good question, and I’ve been wondering the same.
PokerStars has always been one of the biggest platforms, so removing freerolls from the main lobby seems like a strange move.
Maybe they want to push more players toward real-money games or Spin & Go formats.
But I think it’s a bit unfair, especially for new players who want to learn and build a bankroll without risk.

PokerStars promotes PowerPath tournaments. And that's a very good thing! These promotional tournaments give you a chance to win tickets to tournaments like Sunday Million and Sunday Storm. Yes, PokerStars has removed some freerolls, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm more unhappy with the fact that this poker room changed their loyalty program, which now burns points.

There are a lot of tournaments on Pokerstars and no freerolls)) who wants to play will play, and who doesn't know how to play will look for excuses, and one of these excuses is the lack of free tournaments... and you can only learn how to play by playing for money and moving up the limits))

I haven't played Stars in a while, but I don't recall them having many, if any "free" tournaments before.

PokerStars' decision to stop offering free tournaments is simply inhumane. It's clear they’re now all about the money. Gone are the days when they were the best platform—one that truly celebrated poker at its finest. I really miss those star-named tourneys...

Nothing changes. If you've been playing poker for years and you're still looking for free tournaments, you'd better invest your time in something else. A lot of people say that the site is bad because they don't give them free money anymore. They're funny.

HM with that strategy they will loose many players that come up with a small bankroll ...
I left Pokerstars before years , because the freerolls are to big and overrun...who want play a tournament for 5 hours for a winning of a few cent?
I joined ggpoker, get much free stuff for a deposit and have access to the daily gift...I get every day a 0.25cent token for mystery or spin poker and once a week a 1dollar token

So a weekly giveaway of 2.5dollar with that I can make a few bucks weekly

That's old news . Anyway , it's there money , they can do whatever they want with it . You can't tell them what to do , it's their business plan and decision to make . They believe freerolls atf of no good for them nowadays so they stopped them . They haven't changed theirminds until now , do that means it was a hood decision for them

Their business plan is quite thought-provoking. They banned players from Russia, left Croatia, the Czech Republic, and Poland, and discontinued freerolls. They've gone from being the best and largest poker room in the world to a mediocre player.

It's a real shame that PokerStars is stopping free tournaments. Freerolls were a great way to get started for beginners or those who wanted to have fun without risking any money. They allowed them to get their hands dirty, discover the platform, and sometimes even build a small bankroll from scratch.
I understand that they don't get anything directly from it, but it's a blow to the community. They could have at least kept a few freerolls reserved for active players or those with deposits. Here, we clearly feel that they prefer to push more profitable formats like Spin & Go or casino formats.
Fortunately, other rooms like Winamax or unibet still offer interesting freerolls. If PokerStars continues to neglect recreational players, they risk losing a lot of players...
