For years the king of SnGs were pokerstars, but as long term players have likely noticed, the SnG scene on PokerStars is no more than a shadow of its former self. Last year they hiked the rake on most of their single table SnGs, and as some of us predicted back then, this was more or less the nail in the coffin for those games. Even in 18-mans and On-Demand games, which were unaffected by the rake hikes, activitity is steadily declining. So is there any alternative then?
Luckily the answer is yes, and the answer, which I personally have come across, is ACR Poker. SnGs on ACR Poker dont run 24 hours a day but basically stop running from around 8-9 am CET to something like 5-6 pm CET. But if you are in the european time zone, thats only an issue during weekends and holidays, since thats the time, you are most likely working. And there are also a lot of upsides, the most important of which are:
* A simple and reasonable 5-10% rake across games and stakes, where for instance a $6 SnG is $6+0,6, if its a regular/turbo and $6+0,3, if its a hyperturbo. So no ripping off microstakes players and no weirdness, where for instance a 6-man SnG has higher rake than a 9-man for no obvious reason.
* Solid activity in On Demand games, because multible games of the same type can run simultaneously. This is way better than PokerStars, where an On Demand game need to fill to 45 players, before registration for the next one open up.
* All SnGs on ACR Poker now go on the hourly breaks along with MTTs. This might not be everyones cup of tea, but I really like it. It also makes it way easier to combine MTTs and SnGs in the same session.
* A weekly SnG leaderboard. For each $ paid in rake for a SnG (including Spins) players are rewarded 1,25 points, and if you earn 150 points in a week, you are almost 100% sure to make $50 from the leaderboard. This amounts to 40% rakeback, and if you play On Demand games, its even better, since then you are rewarded 2,5 points for each $ paid in SnG rake resulting in 80% rakeback.
* Fast and relatively easy deposits and withdrawals with Luxon Pay.
* Software running stable with no breakdowns for me during the past 10 days, where I have played there again after a break.
So thats it and hopefully see some forum members at the tables? As a disclaimer I am not affiliated with ACR Poker in any way, and I am fully aware of the concerns, people have had about game integrity in the past. I am not saying, this is a perfect site, but frankly there are no perfect sites, so as poker players we need to make do with those, that are "good enough". And for me ACR Poker fits that bill, especially now that PokerStars seem to be completely clueless about how to save their SnGs from total extinction
