Those that do specifically outlaw internet gambling include Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada (ha! should be obvious why), Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin. particularly humorous, consider how many pros live in Vegas and pretty openly play online.

And consider everyone from the other states who do too, plenty of whom are members here. Obviously, policing internet gambling isn't a top priority among those or any other states for that matter.

The only state that I know of who has taken serous measures toward controlling/prohibiting internet poker specifically is KY and that completely depends on compliance of the sites. Though I am in southern OH my ISP is in KY and I cannot play on various sites, like Cake. Doyle's Room used to have a ban but that's changed now; same with UB and AP. Ironically, KY is not a state that outlaws internet gambling--they just don't want any gambling money going anywhere that will interfere with betting on the horses.

However, one provision apparently says that online gaming sites currently operating in the U.S. could not get a license, because they are operating illegally right now. The result could be that PokerStars and FullTilt could not get licensed.

If the servers are not in the USA are they operating in the USA?

Yeah, that was the point I was making earlier. They do not operate in the US, therefore how can they be "operating illegally in the US?"

I'm not sure why anyone is excited about anything except a repeal of the UIGEA. I am not aware of anything the government has "regulated" that resulted in better treatment for the consumers. Nothing good for poker players will come from government regulation. More likely it will mirror what has happened in france and Italy.

What is still the problem with the americans and online gambling. I guess the sites just don't pay enough politicians to pass a bill favorable to them, and the b&m places pay alot more? The sites just need to get their act together then!

Playing online poker is just another supposed vice as determined by the powers that be. Interesting how they want to control smoking, obesity, liquor, guns etc. Each one of these things are forms of individual expression. They all want us to be the same, act the same, have the same attitudes. I would expect that they will find a way to disconnect the poker sites before they ever allow it. JMHO.

No offense to the hopeful, but this bill has little no chance of passing. If it everdoes, the positives are that there will be an influx of fish, and places like Facebook and Harrah's that will open for-money sites (not to mention the new party poker/Bwin behemoth), but on the negative side rakes will increase and even the smallest profits will be taxed relentlessly.

People should be questioning their desire for this to be passed in the first place.

Yesssss getting obese and dying of a heart attack @ 40, plus getting 5 guns and 12 rifles are good ways of expressing oneself. Morons have to express themselves somehow too!

barney frank bill approved

i read that they approved barney franks bill on internet gaming. For all those living in the US, what is your opinion of this? I would think this will hopefully get the US players happy about this decision.

There is much discussion on this topic. Only the first group has approved. It still has three steps to go though.

I prefer to allow each state to decide how to handle these laws but I would be plenty happy with a federal law too.

Never happy when taxes go up but less happy when I am made to feel like a criminal for spending my money on a game that i enjoy.
