I know my study game is lacking but I'm just curious how much do you study your/the game in order to improve?

By studying, I mean all possible types like reviewing hands, watching videos, studying charts, etc.

How much do you study in relation to your time spent playing? And what are your favourite methods to study?🤔

Yes, I'm too lazy to learn everything, of course, but I try to spend 1-2 hours a day now I used to devote more time to training and now I spend 1-2 hours on my hands and watch newt tournaments there I watch how they play in general and record something new for myself when I see professional players they do such all-in that I try myself but it's bad against weak players so we still learn better training which I certainly enjoy watching professional poker games

I try to draw on my personal experience. There's no time to watch others play. I'm not going to play seriously. I've decided a long time ago what I'm going to play and what I'm not going to play for me.

How much do you study in relation to your time spent playing? And what are your favourite methods to study?🤔

If everything is normal not for long... 1-2h, it depends... (Sometimes only 10-15 minutes, because I am impatient with the tilt that has already overtaken me.) Sometimes I don't study, I just play... I've also been studying almost all day... but it can be information overload.

Reviewing hands: I do sometimes; (Which is best with: I use my HUD or something for that. Oh, how the wrong plays just stand out!);
Most times I review them mentally; I review mental hands with the biggest bad shots and the biggest pot wins, which is a disadvantage, (little details are missed, I can't remember every single thing).

To be fair; I don't like this way of working (with HUD), but on the other hand it is the most objective.

Watching videos: It's not bad, in general, not at all, but there is a lot of information that is missed a lot, and the materials need to be reviewed several times... It also happens that while watching a video one starts some other mental activity and what is being talked about in the video is missed...

I like the videos better.

Studying charts: I very, very, very rarely open them... They are very unnerving at times, especially when the variation warps them…
By the way, I have had a case where I was playing with a chart next to me, and I made it to the final table, the last three people.

I don't like charts.

Books: Lately I've been reading books, not a lot, but enough. (almost finished the first tilt book). I already have a few read… Books talk about things that one does not even suspect...
A long time ago, if someone had told me that I would start reading poker books, I would have laughed in their face...

I prefer them more over charts.

I always research the game before I play. It sometimes takes hours

I think you have to take your time for poker and divide 70% for playing and 30% for studying
for example if you are going to play 10 hours play 7 hours and study 3

Hey @Andyreas , how are you doing? I don't know if there is a rule for how much time to dedicate to study, but I can share my personal little experience so far.

Some months ago, I was playing too much, almost eveyday, several freerolls and some micro tournaments. And I work 8h/day, therefore there are no many hours left to play. And I was not satisfied with my level. Ok, some results here and there, but still having so much trouble with some decisions. I also was getting very tired, and constantly finding myself with no time for other activities. That's when I realized that if I had continued like that, I would not be able to do this for so much time. And I wasn't improving.

Then I simply divided my free hours in the week and simply commited myself to follow it.

0. I defined a clear goal. Do you have yours? Is it to get good at tournaments? Is it to play cash games? Is it to crush SnGs? Stick to only one for some time.
1. I separated a specific day for playing long hours and play really focused. This is the day to fully practice. In my case, saturdays.
2. Having a specific day to REALLY play, I separated some days to just study and prepare for saturday. I take tuesday and friday evenings to study. 2 hours max. Some wednesdays too, but sometimes I play a little bit.
3. Reviewing hands, so much important! For me this is not fun at all, it requires a lot of discipline, because this is the moment when you face you, and what you will discover about your game may not be good at the moment, but it's necessary to avoid same mistakes.

It's not fun to play less hours (or even pause) and study, but here's the truth: tomorrow the same tournaments will be there. And also next week. And the next. If I don't pause a little, next year I will look back and regret the time I could have studied and improved. My results would certainly be much better, but pursuing immediate rewards will do the opposite.

There is no best investment than pausing and studying to get better.
When you see better results after some weeks of study, you will not negotiate your study time. Repeat this until you think you have a good understanding for that level. Crush the field for a while, and then look for what is the next level, and go for it.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough free time to study. There is only enough time for the game, and not always. So all I can do is learn in the process. In my opinion, learning during the game is the most effective and convenient. But this is certainly not enough, you need to study and I think that at least one hour a day allocated to study would have a very positive effect.

I personally prefer well written books to study. Usually I read on my commute, vacations, before I got to sleep and whenever I have some time to pass. In terms of time allocation it's probably 30% studying/70% playing.

You can develop poker skills on your own. In poker, not every professional player is a good teacher and vice versa.One is not a hindrance to the other, the main thing is desire and patience.
