Transitioning from Live to Online play.

Hi,

Fairly new to CardsChat so hi to the community!

I've played Live Hold'em for the majority of my poker venture and I've only started to dabble a little online, i only have GGPoker at the moment.

Style of play in my opinion has been vastly different to live and i was looking for any tips or good learning curves to adapt to this scene and get my grind going but it's proving really difficult, my bankroll keeps me in the micro's at best and it feels impossible to have a level strategy.

do i just suck?

Finding a good Live Cash Game is the best way to earn money from poker in 2025.

Online can be good for training your game, but it's really hard to earn more than pocket money.

Welcome to CardsChat! Don’t worry, online and live poker really do feel very different. Online games are faster, and players are more aggressive — especially in micro stakes. You're not bad — you're just adapting. Stick to tight-aggressive play, study hand ranges, and use free tools like Equilab or PokerTracker if possible. One day at a time — you’ll get there! 💪🙂

Microstakes are quite difficult, considering they are microstakes... Were you a winning live player?

Study preflop charts, grind micros patiently, and review hands. You don’t suck, just need to adjust.

I would like the exact opposite, to be able to play live instead of online, but unfortunately that is not possible. The real game happens at the tables, nothing can replicate that atmosphere.

You'll find online a lot tougher than playing live and at the micro stakes it's likely bets to play a simple, straight forward TAG style of poker at least till you get use to online, start doing hand reviews and learning exploits for your player pool. I play mainly at pokerstars so your mileage may very but 2nl and 5nl can be beat by playing straight forward poker and not over thinking it or trying anything fancy. And there's almost no reason to try bluffing the majority of the player pool because you can't bluff calling stations. As you likely know to beat calling stations you value bet them to death.

If you're inclined to spend a bit of money on courses checkout the link below for run it once poker or maybe you have already being a live player. Phil Galfond's site has some courses on the cheaper side that are well worth the price. You won't need them to beat micros though.

You're also gonna want a HUD even though GG doesn't allow them so NEVER have a HUD open when playing. You want a HUD for study purposes and hand reviews. You can download your hands from GG and import them into the HUD for review and study. Easiest best way to study and do hand reviews. I prefer Poker Tracker 4 link below. You can try it free for I believe 10 days or so.

Transitioning from live to online sounds like something extremely masochistic. If you can properly bankroll yourself and play well live, there is barely any reason to play online unless you just really like harder poker. Live games are softer and more fun overall AFAIK.

Speaking of the style though, there are much stronger requirements to have a good understanding of GTO poker, because people play much better. There are quite a bit of GTO materials out there.
