Satellites: Few players + Added tickets = Wonderful combination

I just played a satellite for the 12th anniversary of the Sunday Storm on pokerstars and this was one of the funniest setups I have ever seen and I want to share it with you.

The buy-in was only $0.55 and there were 30 additional tickets guaranteed.

I registered about 3 minutes before the start and there were only 26 players registered. When the tournament was supposed to start, there were still only 31 players registered and there was a notification that the starting time was postponed for 5 minutes.

It finally started with 35 players. So now we were at 31 tickets already + cash prizes.

Two more players entered and at the same time one or two players busted early and suddenly the animation of the table changed to ITM, just 3-5 minutes after the tournament start. 😱

So due to the additional cash prize structure and guaranteed tickets, we were ITM already which forced the closure of the late registration. 😅

This was also the most funny "bubble" (for tickets) I ever played since everyone was sitting with 70-100 BBs. 😁

Luckily some people were willing to take (unnecessary) risks and just 30-40 minutes later I had my ticket. 🎉

I'm curious if PS will change the structure/added tickets for those morning tournaments but I'll keep an eye out in the next days.

The one starting in 1.5 hours already has 30 players, so it will be entirely different 😅

It wasn't that quick yesterday but my satty also got postponed . Late reg was extended a bit .
But I got my ticket after 50 min of play .

I will also try that for a Sunday Million sat for next weekend. Seems early morning (ET time ) and late at night are the sweet spots

You are not allowed to register anymore:


So in case you want to play the event and hunt for some TM$, as some do, you have to register for all interesting satellites beforehand.

Yes, there you'll probably have a good chance of winning a ticket as well!

The question is always how many entrants there will be. But we can't know in advance for sure. 😅

I have experienced something similar in satellites on 888 Poker, but there it was a result of someone deliberately creating the situation by multiaccounting and cheating the site. This person would look for a satellite, which was just about to start, and had not met the minimum amount of participants required. He would then enter from a number of different (fake) accounts, so that the satellite would fill. If for instance two players had registered, and six were needed, he would take the last four seats seconds before, the tournament began.

In the first hand he would then go all-in preflop with 3 of his accounts, so that two of them were busted. This would then bring the number of participants down to 4, and with 2 tickets being rewarded, late registration would now close resulting in a massive overlay. Even if he then only managed to secure one of the 2 tickets, it was a massively profitable strategy, because the structure of these satellites is based on a presumption, that the vast majority of players will late register. Which they normally do, when this manipulation is not done.

I brought the cheating to 888 Pokers attention, but for several month they let it continue, and then I stopped playing there for other reasons, so I stopped keeping track of it. So for all, I know, it might even still be going on to this day. As for PokerStars its rare for them to make this kind of mistake, so I think, we can assume, the structure of these satellites will soon be changed

Casually happened to me this Sunday. I was waiting to a sat to start, and 2 minutes before the start time, I saw that it needed at least 2 more players, so I entered (I usually wait till the second or third level to register).
We were 8 for 5 tickets, and 30 minutes of late reg.
But when I checked after 5 minutes playing, the late reg. wasn't available anymore and we were in the bubble already.

I exactly had the same thought when I noticed this happening. 😅

But quite surprising people actually manage to have the audacity to do this with multiple accounts. 😱

Oh that sucks. I remember that one specific sat to the SM anniversary gave me that message, and there were other sats where I was able to play. I think that this isn't the case, is it?
