Online tells – do they actually exist?

When we think about poker tells, most people picture live games: a shaky hand, a nervous glance, or the way someone stacks their chips. But even online, where physical cues don’t exist, many players believe there are digital tells that can reveal information about opponents.

Some common examples of online tells:
  • Timing tells: snapping back instantly may signal a weak hand or a pre-decided move, while a long pause can sometimes indicate strength (or indecision).
  • Bet sizing patterns: some players always bet small with weak hands and go big only when strong. Over time, these habits can be exploited.
  • Chat box behavior: talkative players who suddenly go silent (or vice versa) may be focused on a big hand.
  • Multi-tabling clues: inconsistent timing might just mean they’re busy at another table, not necessarily strength or weakness.
The challenge is separating true tells from random noise. Unlike live poker, where body language has a consistent psychological basis, online tells are often based on small patterns — and players can deliberately fake them.

At the highest levels, pros don’t rely on tells alone, but combine them with solid math (ranges, equity, position) to make better decisions.

What do you think about all this? Should we consider digital tells as a thing? kkk

I actually have played a lot of online poker this year here are some of the online tells that I came across
1.Snap bet/fold:many times you would come across someone doing this if you can read your opponent you can exploit then if they quick bet or fold.
2.Bet sizing:This is most important than the 1st one many recreational players telegraph their hand by their bet size, trapping, calling with low pairs etc.
