I tell all my current girlfriends that this is a very strong hobby, I told them when I was making a living from it.
Everyone accepted it, otherwise there would have been no relationship.
I had an ex who I felt would prefer me to have a permanent job, even if it paid much less than poker. After 2 years, the relationship ended.

In a normal relationship, this can be discussed, everyone needs time to themselves (if it's a hobby). For someone who makes a living from poker, it's definitely harder, because we're not talking about 1-2 hours a day, but the partner has to adapt to this. Although, for someone who already plays poker professionally and makes a good living from it, I think their partner would have no problem understanding that this is their main source of income, so they should deal with it as much as they can.

Hello everybody just wondering what's your girlfriends/boyfriend wife/husband attitude about online poker, are they against or they are fine with it that spending countless hours playing poker?
Or they just think it's a gambling?
My girlfriend was against it till I explained what it means to me and won't stop it...

When my wife saw I was spending more time playing poker than with her, she told me if I didn't stop, I'd lose her. I said, "You know what? You're right."
It's not worth it to keep wasting time playing this game, getting angry at myself, being sedentary, smoking nonstop, locked away between four walls.

I don't know how old you are my friend, but it's not worth it if you're not going to make a living from it.

It's all about having a poker/life balance, finding a good and decent partner. Not sure there's many of the later on either side left nowadays.

I intentionally invited my now wife over one day while I was playing a SnG so she'd show up while I was still playing to get the discussion rolling about my online poker hobby. She was pretty interested and at first thought it was just all for fake/play money till I told and showed her otherwise. At first she was a bit concerned.....I then open up Poker Tracker 4 and showed her years of results showing profits and the amount of time I played. After a long discussion about it (she had a lot of questions).........10+ years later we're still happily married. Haven't had a single fight or argument over poker.

Lately my wife often wonders and asks why I don't play more . Specially since the start of 2025 as I really haven't felt like playing much the last 6-7 months.

Cheers!!!

Haha, great question!

My wife was skeptical at first too — she thought it was just gambling and a waste of time.

But once she saw how much strategy and discipline it involves, she became more supportive. Now she even asks me how my tournaments went! 😄

I think it’s all about showing them that it’s more than just luck.

Glad your girlfriend came around too!

My husband spends much more time playing games than I do. At first, I didn't like it until he explained it to me and I realized that whether it's fun or stressful, it helps supplement our income. Today, I'm even more active and excited.

I am not sure who loves poker more. My husband or me. We both love it and we
both spend much time on it. We play a lot, everyone for eachself online meanwhile, and we also discuss it a lot together. Before we married, we was playing together/against each other from different countries.
And if there wasn't poker, I guess my hubby and me would never have met.
Did you meet online or in person?
I'm curious!
