I think everyone is loosing just because not enough player can control themselves. Even those Pro's mostly got Pro just because they once in a while won a big tournament. Therefore they got attention and even contracts so they had no problems with bankroll management anymore. I generally believe its all about your bankrollmanagement. There are tons of rich player out there, they started already with an unlimited bankroll. So they mostly play for no profit but people only see their winnings.

It's hard to say. But I think that those who consistently lose at poker need to fix their mistakes. Certainly everyone can't win. That's why there is a category of “fishes” and there is a category of “sharks”. But that doesn't mean that a fish can't become a shark someday. By the way, I don't belong to any category. I am a Fox and I am a plus player (you can check it out in sharkscope) at all poker rooms I'm registered at, but the wizard does not reveal his secrets. :ROFLMAO: Good luck! ;)

I think even if you are a losing player with poker, you can win some crazy tournaments few in a row , so you can change everything in one day .
I read it somewhere that 85% of poker players are losing players. If it's true then not many are doing this for a living.

My thoughts are It is a tremendously difficult game to win +bankroll long term because of the downswings, which actually feel like they happen 85% of the time.. all premium holdings lose no matter how you play them, usually when you get delt premiums on the big blind everyone folds, but next time your the big blind with 7 2 off the small blinds all ins you. I also notice on a downswing nearly every hand you fold would of won against the 2 or 3 players at showdown, then when you finally get something worth playing it ends in unbelievable disaster no matter how you play it.

I just play for fun, I'm guessing if I knew more of the math side of it I'd lose much less, also got a leak off snap going all in when I really shouldn't somewhere during the hand, but working on that.

Apparently the high rollers are also losing, even after they take something big according to a video I saw on Youtube, after buy-ins and expenses are deducted they are behind the 8 ball.
Always thought the loser number overall was closer to 95%.
I'm ahead overall online, but an hourly rate over the time I put in would be abysmal.

Where did you get that % from? If you're referring to online players, there are several factors involved, such as the room where the poker is played, the number of online players, and the quality of the players.

Winning and losing in poker are part of the same mosaic, the difference is that you can't be consistent in poker with luck alone, even if we need it in the short, medium and long term during the games we participate in. So the difference is to study, learn the fundamental strategies and techniques well and be prepared so that when luck is in our favor we can give our best and win a lot of money in the hands that are being played at the tables, whether online or in person.

I don't think that's how you're putting it. I think that in poker, each player receives the same percentage of hands and each player has to play it in the best way possible. If you study and have a solid long-term strategy, you'll win, and you'll also have an advantage over your rivals.

I would say at least 99% of poker players lose.
I think the losers are about 90% of the players.
Depends on how you calculate it. In most MTTs I would suggest that unless you're in the top three, you haven't won, and most of the time it could be argued that you've lost more than you've gained. If an MTT has 500+ entries then the 'losers' are easily in the 99% group. Most players rarely if ever make it to the top three in those.

There is a sine wave of wins and losses ) multiplied by the coefficient of desire and confidence ) divided by the coefficient of caution .... ))) Just kidding )))) Catch your days and dates when you feel lucky ! And your confidence will help you not to be afraid to increase bets ) But the main thing is experience !!!!

it depends on the point of view.

If you'll think about it objectively, like an allien who just came from another planet, then things are quite interesting.

1) Exclude money from equation, then 100% of poker regulars and poker players in general are losers :(
2) Exclude fun (cause it's mostly addiction for everyone who play on daily basis), then again 100% of poker players are losers.

why?

cause let's say average human life is 80 years, it's 24*365*80 = 700K hours, we sleep 30% of this time, if you're reading this then you're old enough to read and some time has passed already... you also have to eat/work/go to bath and do other routine things. So you're left with some number of effective hours of your life, and you're spending some % of these hours playing poker. Does poker helps human race to evolve or improve? Does poker help you become a better human being? I think not. It's not my sunjective opinion, i'm just trying to think objectively....

For the evolution of the human race what's the difference between explanation of some poker theore and for example explanation of some flat earth theory? Is there any profit for human race in both of these theories? In both cases people just spend their time doing what they subjectively think is good for them.

It's sad, but I haven't heard any stories about successful poker player who did something really good for humanity, except for cases of charity donations. However there are possibly millions of stories of ruined lifes because of poker... so is it 85% or 99.9999%

The certainty of losing, with fatigue, is apathy and losing ...) And the active search for patterns and probabilities, is analysis, which gives the opportunity to win ) There is also intuition and matanalysis ... There is also information on the players .... In short ... take more tests and you will be healthy ... analyze more often and you will be smarter ... and if at the same time, you have a system and strategy, you will become wiser ! )

I think that 85% of the time I spend playing, I lose.
But the 15% that I sometimes win, makes poker very important in my life.

My bet would be it is much lower number of players who are winning. Perhaps somewhere between 5-10%. But it is only a guess. I wonder if we did a survey on our forum - something like: "Are you a winning player?" -"Yes/No/I don't know" - what would be the result?

How much is ok to lose to this hobby? Very few players are winners overall ... So how much is it ok to spend just to have fun?
