You can safely invest between $10 and $50 in each session.

It all depends on your skills, experience, and goals. But in general, I would recommend spending more than 2-3% of the bankroll on one session. So, according to my suggestion, you have $20-$30 per session. And I think it could be 5-6 tournaments with a buy-in of about $5.

Depends of your skill level. Online isn't near as easy as live poker.

Generally I use 50 buy-ins for cash. 100 buy-ins for MTT's.
2nl=$100
5nl=$250
10nl=$500(this is where I start playing $5 MTT's(10+min blind levels). I also keep playing cash.
25nl=$1250.00
50nl=$2500.00
100nl=$5000.00(this is where as a rec/hobby player I withdraw and enjoy my profits).


But if one plays above his skill level online it doesn't matter how many buy-ins you have.

The important is, how much you invest per game not per session. If you have no other idea, then these numbers are a good starting point:

* Cash games - 30 x the full buyin
* Single table tournaments (STT) - 50 x the buyin
* Multi table tournaments (MTT) - 100 x the buyin

So with $1000 you can play cash games with a maximum buyin of $33 or lower, $20 STTs and $10 MTTs.
