you always learn something new. Lately I have been practicing different strategies and I realize how important patience and discipline are at the tables. Do you also feel that the key is more in the mind than in the cards?

If you don't have the patience and discipline you can start Bingo! The first rule is the rest you will learn along the way...

The key is both in the mind and in the cards in my opinion.
No matter how good your patience and mindset is, the cards that fall will determine the win or loss from a flip.
You need both to be performing optimal, especially in tournament poker.

Ho hell yes, The mind is more important than the cards. It takes a hell of a lot of discipline to muck QQ or AQ after a raise and a 3 bet to you, made by a couple of nits. As for patience my game seems more suited for 6 hand table than 9 hand table. It allows me to play more hands, .

They say patience is a virtue, but when it comes to poker it’s a necessity. To many calls, money gone , game over.

your mindset is crucial in anything you do in life if your mind is on other things ie life problems you may struggle to play your best

I definitely agree with the author of this thread! Staying calm at the poker table is 30% of overall success. Sometimes it's hard to think rationally when we lose part of our stack due to a bad beat. But we must always remember that losses are part of the game and should be viewed as valuable experience.

Patience is the most crucial I would agree. Especially when it comes to tournaments, where everything can flip drastically in a matter of few hands.

Certainly, patience and discipline are essential to poker success. As much as we want to accelerate the game, thinking that we will win no matter what happens, we often end up doing very badly.

The cards are important, but the key is to stay calm during bad times and to have the patience to wait for better hands.

The more you play poker, the more you understand that the cards are just one piece of the puzzle, in my opinion. Anyone can draw kings or aces during a session, but that doesn't mean they'll get the same results every time. The key factor is how you carry yourself in situations where you don't have a premium hand, when variance isn't working in your favor or when you feel the need to be overly aggressive.

The cornerstone of the game is patience and self control. Discipline enables you to maintain your plan even when your emotions are pulling you in the other direction, while patience prevents you from acting impulsively when the moment is not appropriate. These two characteristics alone can prevent you from making a lot of errors.

On top of that, the mental side is about resilience. Can you stay focused after losing a big pot ? Can you avoid tilting when someone sucks out on you ?
So yes, i would say poker is much more about the mind than the cards. The cards create opportunities, but your mindset decides your results.

That’s hard to do. Change of carts, the mood you’re in. Distractions etc. For some is easier then others

Hello, it's not easy to have discipline, it's something that at the beginning is very complicated, but over time you acquire it and the consistency of maintaining it is something that usually becomes a little easier.

There is no doubt that skill is more powerful than cards in poker.
