Its not good for beginners, its only good if you are playing against unexploitable players.
If you are a beginner you should be in low stakes/free games and those players are very exploitable.
You should be looking to exploit players first and if you cant, then you use GTO.
If you cant tell if players are bad or good- sharkscope them or look for players who open limp(they are very bad).

Gto is always good, however, you play closer to it in higher buy-ins, in cases of micro buy-ins, the gto serves as a base, then you try to build a range of your opponents, and study how to deviate from the theory.
