My friend and I were chatting about poker and I was explaining the different variations of the game. Because they are new and wanting to know everything they can about the brilliant game they asked about games I don’t really partake in.. so it raised a great question.. when learning to play poker what strategy is best. Learn hold em and add to that down the road or, try every type of poker as u may catch on to another variation quite quickly as opposed to another.

Thanks!!!

I believe that whatever format a person enjoys playing the most is the one that they'll do best in (they'll be more likely to study)

Your friend should start with 7 card stud. If they do they will learn to range opponents and to make proper folds and raises. These skills are the basic skills for all forms of poker. Playing limit games also makes your mistakes less costly.

Well the most played games online are holdem in various forms, omaha pot limit and omaha hilo pot limit,

which isn't what you asked but might help your friend decide what to focus on,

... personally I think learning as much as you can helps your overall game,

each game teaches their own lessons, also it's just more fun than

playing the same game all the time so I would say try them all and

find what you enjoy the most and focus on those games😎👍

The first step is to solidify the pre-flop. The pre-flop is like a structural blueprint for a house. Without it, you can't have a good post-flop, because that's where you have to know which hands will play in a certain way on future streets. And the pre-flop is where you always have to review it. It's a key piece in your evolution. Even the best players in the world do this. They always study the pre-flop! After you have a good pre-flop, you start studying the things that happen the most. For example, Btn vs bb is the spot we play the most. So you have to study both attacking and defending, and so on...
