Hey CardsChat!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how often I fold in tournaments, especially in tricky postflop spots. Sometimes I fold marginal hands where I might actually be ahead, just because I don’t want to make a mistake. But later, I start to wonder: am I folding too much and missing value or bluff-catching opportunities?

I’d love to hear from more experienced players — how do you balance playing safe with trusting your reads?

Do you ever regret being too tight in certain spots?

Any tips on building confidence in marginal situations?

I also want to know more about that. Folding too much or more than average may give you an edge if you have already accumulated chips. I can't say that I know a lot about folding, but during turn and river is more about strategy and being aggressive. Preflop is what I was explaining above.

You need to learn to look at fold as an opportunity not to lose money)

I never regret anything, I think as long as you play responsibly you should regret the decisions you make.

I don’t regret folds. I do regret a lot of calls I’ve made lol. Trusting your reads just comes with time and experience. It’s like driving a car, when you first start out you have no idea of what a certain speed limit feels like. When you e been driving 20 years you pretty much have a good feel of what certain speed limits feel like.
Good luck!

I think it's better to fold too much than to call too much.

Depends on a lot of factors. If your opponent overbets - feel free to give up on marginal hands, as your MDF is low enough for overfolding to not be exploitable. If, on the other hand, you fold to small or medium bets on the boards where you have more than enough equity to call, especially on earlier streets, you should reconsider, as your opponents can start exploiting that by betting all sorts of trash into you and taking the pot for free most of the time, and you are just going to lose money either way.

You can also overfold to nits or other people with unbalanced ranges shifted towards having too much value and too few bluffs in the spot, but you have to be completely sure that this is the case to profitably overfold. And the opposite is true: if your opponent's betting range is too bluff-heavy you should bluff catch every time and not overfold at all.

I regret folding too much, in the olden days when effective stacks were around 18bbs you would see a lot of players shoving over raises, but now you dont see that much. So I think I am missing some spots.
