Real time playing. So many things can happen that study doesn’t really prepare you for all the variables that can hit. Play low level freerolls at MTTs. You will see many hands and gain good experience. Play low level sit and gos for high turnover games also.

I think studying by reading books and watching videos is important. If you want to learn the game well, you learn a good foundation with books and videos. Although where you notice the difference is by practicing, playing every day and applying what you studied to improve your strategies.

I think training sites and coaching worked the best for me, but the cheap way is to just review all your hands using an icm tool.

I don't think there's a right or wrong way to study. I believe it's more what's best for each person and how they like to learn. I actually use all the above but I also take the game very seriously. Another thing about learning is about what you want from the game. If you're just trying to beat friends or break even online or are you trying to become a new professional. I think all these decisions need to go into the thought process of which way to go if you're training.
