Do you keep daily/ session targets and stop when you achieve it?

On a miserable day, I won 7$ in a freeroll, when on to play NLH reached up to 38$ and lost all of them playing AK vs AJ with the later getting straight with K on the river… 😒

I try to set daily/session targets and stick to them as much as possible. It helps me manage losses and avoid tilting. Days like yours happen-sometimes even a good hand like AK can run into bad luck. The key is to stay disciplined, learn from it, and not chase losses. Poker is a long game, not just one hand or one session.

You maybe could have stopped earlier but you was obviously playing well to reach the numbers you did all starting from a free tournament.

Personally I could never do that as I am probably too disciplined with my bankroll. If I won 7 from a freeroll I would just play more freerolls until I had the amount I required.

You obviously know what you are doing and one day this strategy may come up big for you, all depends what you are looking for. If you are looking to build a bankroll freerolls are your friend.

For cash games I would suggest having 50/100 buy ins so you have the tools to be able to stick to the task incase of bad beats etc. Good luck.

Backroll management is very important to not start from zero again!

It's good to set short-term goals that are truly attainable, if you always play $1 a day freerolls don't try to play a $10 a day one so soon because that will hurt your economy quickly. salutes

You could most definitely do this, I hope you do and I not saying your strategy is incorrect in any way. Many players have reached a high level in a short space of time.

Well, some say, when you have a good run, you should continue playing, otherwise you deny yourself a chance to achieve an outstanding result, beat a record etc. I understand putting a loosing limit, to make sure to not to loose too much, but the limit of win? No, I do not think so. You could plan to have some fun, prepare for 3 hours session but all of sudden achieved your daily goal in 5 mins... and what?

Technically, it does not matter if you play the next deal right now or make a break and start tomorrow. What counts, is your mental shape and preparation. This is why it is good to stop to cut loosing or just stop when you feel tired, distracted or nervous. Otherwise, I do not find it reasonable.

Loosing an important deal like AK vs AJ you described changes nothing as soon as you played it correctly. It is just a variance.

The goal is to always do your best each day; results come with time. I don't believe in setting a certain amount, earning that amount, and simply stopping playing for the day to play the next. I think it's better to maintain a routine of hours per day and always strive for the best result at the end of the day.

I find I suck at discipline most times. Even when I try to be a good boy I will destroy my poker bankroll after a long winning streak. I try to set limits but I love the game too much when I'm winning. Don't be blindsided like me. Set your limits and stick with it.

I usually play based on time, as much as I can. I think the worst way is to play until a set amount is reached, because that win might never come, and you can always lose even more.

That’s a really interesting experience you shared. Personally, I believe setting daily or session targets is very important, especially if you want to control your emotions and protect your bankroll. It’s tempting to keep playing when things are going well, but poker has a way of turning around quickly, just like in your AK vs AJ hand. If you had set a stop point after building your stack to $30 or even $25, you could have locked in a solid win from that freeroll. Of course, it’s much easier to say this afterward than in the moment when the adrenaline is flowing. I usually try to define both a “win goal” and a “loss limit” before starting, so that I don’t get carried away. That way, even on unlucky days, I finish with some discipline and avoid losing everything. It’s a tough habit to build, but it really helps in the long run.

I must definitely bring in more discipline to my game. On that specific instant I had mentioned, my plan was to stop at 50$. On a side note, if I had won with my AK, I would have made more than 100$, as there were 4/5 players calling the pre flop…
