Playing poker for a long time with high intensity can cause many negative effects on the mind and health. Constantly having to think strategically, facing financial risks and the pressure of winning or losing can easily lead to nervous tension, loss of concentration and anxiety. If prolonged, players can suffer from sleep disorders, fatigue, and even affect memory and the ability to control emotions. In addition, sitting for many hours to play is also harmful to the body, such as back pain, eye strain, increased risk of cardiovascular disease and obesity.

This game is definitely not for everyone. If you are expecting anxiety then you should definitely get some help for it. I suffer from anxiety but poker actually helps me relax.

Yes, that is true, and it’s also important to make time for family and life in general. Poker can be intense, but keeping balance with relationships, health, and personal time helps prevent the negative effects and keeps the game enjoyable.

I have feeling you are journalist trying to gather information about gambling addiction on forums

Poker is definitely not the right hobby for you if this causes you that much strain. Elevated levels of cortisol and if you get too much dopamine from playing poker that resembles gambling addiction could lead to serious changes in brain wiring that could reduce your enjoyment in real life. I recommend stopping playing if it causes you this... maybe even permanently!

I can't stop because I'm really addicted to it, I can only reduce the time I play it but I can't quit completely. And yes, I know it's affecting me both negatively and positively 😂

Ever since I started playing more seriously, I've started working on my physical and mental conditioning.
I've made some dietary changes close to major tournaments... because I haven't been able to play very often, so I've been playing the occasional tournament.

But in reality, we need to be constantly self-analyzing ourselves, even to know when to take a few days off, when to focus more on studying, reinforce some SPOTs... so that when it's time to play, everything isn't so intense and tiring, and to have our standard plays mastered... and checked by the Solvers.

And always be careful because any carelessness can be harmful to our health...

I guess you also need to be strong mentally to continue playing poker. You play a lot of tournaments, and if you don't cash, for most people it can be quite depressing. You go through upswings and downswings. Only the strong continue playing poker, in my opinion.

This changes when you start winning with some frequency. ;)

That’s a really good point. I’ve seen a couple of friends get carried away with poker and it stopped being fun for them. For me, setting a budget before I even sit down at the table keeps things under control. If I lose that, I just call it a day. I think poker can be a great game as long as we treat it like entertainment and not a way to “chase” money.

Poker with friends is a harmless pastime and a reason to get together with loved ones. But it remains harmless until you start spending money on bets uncontrollably, losing and increasing your debt. For a person with such an addiction, winning in any game becomes the main goal of life - over time, the usual values lose their meaning for the gambling addict.A gambling addict is ready to sacrifice important things - relationships with loved ones, education, work or career - to satisfy his craving for games. The desire to play becomes so strong that a person loses the ability to resist. Any mention of gambling, be it a scene from a movie or a conversation, can provoke another relapse. Especially dangerous is the desire to regain what was lost by playing again in the same place where the person previously lost.

I have anxiety issues. I find poker to be helpful to me. Not as stressful for me as would be expected.
Self control is needed in all games that involve money.
Know your limits. Don't expect to win and don't chase your losses.
If poker becomes stressful, then stop playing. Focus on other aspects of life.
