If a player doubles up in a cash game - how long should they wait before leaving so that they are not "perceived" as hit-and-run?

What is the proper etiquette?

Really you want to play with these players again so that you can double up again.

But if they perceive you as leaving as soon as you win their chips - will they want to play with you again? Or, give you any action at the table?

What do you guys think is the minimum amount of time it takes to leave a cash table so that you are fair?

Does it even matter at all? After all - you can leave a cash table any time you want.

I'm not instructed in cash strategy. The few times I played I used to do that. As soon as I reach the double ammount of my starting stack (not necesarilly with an all in), I cashed out. 🤷‍♂️
I also used to recharge if I was down half the initial stack.
Online, I think it doesn't really care. Live may be different, because you actually have to handle with people right there.

In online games I do not think, it matter at all, since people sit down or leave all the time for whatever reason. In live games etiquette is much more of a thing, especially if its a private home game. Then I think, you kind of have to feel out your situation, if its a game, where you want to be invited back or play on a regular basis. But why would you want to leave after dubbling up in the first place? If its a good game, it makes more sense to stay as long, as you can.

Great question — and definitely a common debate in cash games.
Technically, you're allowed to leave any time you want, but I agree that perception matters if you want to build a good table image.
Personally, I try to stick around for at least one or two more orbits after a big double-up. It feels like a fair balance between protecting my winnings and showing respect to the table.
That said, I don't blame anyone for leaving right after — sometimes it's just smart bankroll management. 😅

Hi,
I don't play a lot of cash games. But lately, I've been doing it more and more often. In my opinion, many players don't take notes. Many of them forget you
And if they don't, they'll probably wait for a strong hand like AA, KK, or AKs. Opponents might wait for a strong hand and play all-in. They might also try to trap you or check-raise you.
Ps. I would like to start a cash-game with 0.5$ = Bankroll and finish with 10$ = Bankroll xD

I agree 100%! Bankroll management is more important than table reputation. There are so many players and poker rooms ;]
There is a low probability that someone will leave the table because you doubled your stack earlier. Of course it is not a problem to stay a while - You don't have to play (even Big Blind and Small Blind positions) and there is no ante as I know.

I think a player's own rules and strategy are more important than etiquette. Although I don't play cash games, in my opinion, if a player has doubled up, it's a perfectly normal and practical decision to get up and leave. And it doesn't really matter what others think about it. But maybe there are different situations, different opponents and different relationships.

I will say this....if you leave after doubling up then you can't double your double (for a quadruple up).

I got the idea for this thread from playing the other day when a player was chatting about another player at the table who "hit-and-ran" at another table when he doubled-up from the complaining player.

And of course - I had to open my big mouth and ask "without defending the villain" how long should he stay at the table after doubling up?

The complaining player seemed surprised and answered "I don't know, maybe another couple of orbits."

So there seems to be some consensus about two orbits so that it doesn't appear as though one is just taking the money and running away.

an orbit at least or maybe 2

why not stay and play😎
Personally it has happened that I lose an all-in and after rebuying and playing for an hour - I have doubled up just to win my money back.

Perhaps my eyes are a little tired - perhaps something needs to be attended to in the real world - and I want to leave the table...and I do.

why would you want to leave after dubbling up

stick around for at least one or two more orbits

don't blame anyone for leaving right after
Agreed.

many players don't take notes. Many of them forget you
This is interesting and I would like to test this theory.

There are so many players and poker rooms ;]
Not for Americans. Maybe six real money poker rooms? And some have few players.

perfectly normal and practical decision to get up and leave
This is true.

Many non-poker players don't understand this because they only see poker on tv when it is a big tournament. And they don't understand (or care) about the differences between tournaments and cash games.

When it comes to online gaming, I believe that etiquette should boil down to not offending other players. You can get up and leave whenever you want without any hesitation or explanation; that is your right, and it is definitely within the bounds of etiquette.

I think it's pretty obvious from some of the comments a lot of these players don't play cash games,

....it's not normal to hit and run, it is definitely noticed and remembered, it absolutely matters what

others think if you intend to be a regular player there..... also just bad cash game strategy to

double and run, doubling is just the start of making money in cash games😎👍
