Hey everyone!

Do you remember when you first played poker? Was it online or offline?

What made you choose that way to start—was it a friend, curiosity, or something else? And most importantly, do you regret your choice or are you happy with it now?

I started playing online poker after watching the wsop Main Event on YouTube. Back then I barely knew the hand rankings. My most memorable moment was when I played play-money chips on pokerstars and managed to win a huge amount. That gave me the idea to deposit and try real money games… well, I guess you can imagine how that ended 😅. That’s when I realized real poker is very different from play money. My advice to beginners is always to start with freerolls — that’s where you’ll find something closer to real poker.

I would have been ten or eleven and the memories are of Mom and Dad at the card table in our den teaching me how to play. ❤️

The internet did not exist when I started playing in first year university in 1972. I played poker live in the Reading Room, in many variations other than Texas Hold'em, which also did not exist, instead of going to classes.

Wow.. when I posted the original question, I never expected I would receive such a response back dated to 1972. You must be an absolute legend 😇

First time I played was with my uncle, he had some old cards and I wanted to play even tho I had no idea what was going on. He didn’t really have patience so it was kinda a disaster lol. Later when I found PokerStars I was like the happiest person ever, finally could just play online all I wanted.

Being a teenager in the late fifties, I remember playing in house games with 4 or 5 of my friends who all worked in a large grocery store and once a week after work would get together for nickle ante dealer’s choice games, which included blackjack, in between, wild card games, jacks or better, Indian, and others. My favourite was 7-card stud which was the only game I played when it was my turn to deal. These were the best of times and I sure miss them. I still think 7-card stud is the best game although it is a hard game to find.

My first memories of poker were in my early childhood when my uncle played micro stakes at pokerstars. I sat and watched him play and I really liked the game. Afterwards I learned the combinations and basic play and played with my friends live.

About 15 years ago I enjoyed it as an extra source of income. I still like it now for the same reason. For me, poker is just a hobby and a way to make some additional money. Nothing more.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the first time I played poker, but I do remember the first time I won first place in a tournament, and I will never forget that.

My first poker memory goes back to a small home game with friends, long before I ever tried playing online. I chose to start this way mostly out of curiosity, because I wanted to understand what made poker so engaging for people. I’m glad I started offline, because it gave me a sense of the social side of the game before moving into the online world.

I remember my brother playing poker stars on 2012, I asked about that game, he explained to me the basics, and then I start playing by myself online
