It's hard to believe how much variance poker has but you need to get used to it and the best player doesn't always win or the worst player loses.
Think about it...

It would be great if the participants really wanted to create a new topic for discussion...or at least, they checked whether their topic of discussion was unique.😊

Luck and technique don't go hand in hand in poker. In the long run, technique seems to prevail, but it takes a lot of patience to win. Variance exists, but the player needs to know how to deal with it. Knowing when to fold a hand, even a good one, can keep the variance of bad luck at bay.

Without a doubt, poker is a game with a lot of variables, and variance is common here, not something incredible.

Ah the old word variance. A word 90-95% of the poker players say they understand. Also a word only about 5-10% actually understand.

Cheers!!!

I propose to think less about the variance. If you constantly pay attention to bad beats, your nerves will suffer all the time. You need to understand that variance is a part of poker. And all your best hands are ahead of you! ;)

I agree, you need to get comfortable with the fact that the best hands pre- flop won't always win and you have to get lucky at some point to run deep.

I absolutely agree with you, even the worst player has days when he is just lucky, and in one evening he can win a large sum of money. Good players have the opposite, there are days when it seems to them that everything is going against them, in such moments the main thing is to be able to stop in time. Dispersion is that moment in poker that I have not yet learned to overcome. In order to overcome it, you need to have very strong patience and be able to control your emotions, and most importantly, do not start tilting when the graph goes down and a series of failures begins. I think that it is precisely the inability to overcome dispersion that is the reason why many good players cannot learn to consistently win at poker and make a living from it. The main thing is to know the reason and have the desire to overcome it, and then everything depends on ourselves.

If the best always won, then poker would not be as complex as it is. Even a beginner can win and that's why I think this game is so popular :)

A good player loses a little money with bad cards, and wins a lot with good cards. A bad player has the opposite.

This is the volatility of poker. All you can do is keep making the right decisions at the table.

Variance balances out in the long run, which is why it’s so important to always play within your bankroll.

Variance is a beast, man. Bad beats happen, but long run, skill wins. Tilt control is key—don’t let short-term luck mess with your head.

variance is the silent opponent at every table. It doesn’t care how well you play or how solid your strategy is. The key difference between pros and everyone else isn’t just skill ... it’s how they handle the downswings. Learning to sit through the storm without chasing losses, without letting ego dictate decisions, is what separates sustainable success from emotional burnout.

In poker, the best player doesn't always win and the worst player doesn't always lose—especially in the short term. This is because poker is a game of both skill and chance. Even a poorly played hand can win with lucky cards, while a well-played hand can lose due to unfortunate outcomes. Variance is an inherent part of the game, which makes it both exciting and unpredictable. However, over time, skillful players will win more consistently, while unskilled players will tend to lose. It's this balance of luck and skill that makes poker unique and challenging.

Absolutely true. Poker is a game of long-term, accurate decisions, not immediate results. Sometimes the best player makes all the right decisions and still loses, while someone with less experience can win due to pure variance. The important thing is to maintain discipline and trust the process, because in the end, skill always trumps time.
