It's definitely a skill game in the long run, but I'd say it's around 55% skill 45% luck for those with an actual skill edge.
Those thinking it's much higher skill, I'd say you are deluding yourselves, look at your win rates/roi, somewhere around the 10% mark for a decent winner?
Poker is brutal.

In the long run, skill is the dominant factor in poker.

HáSkill takes you far, luck makes you play anyway. I used to be that player who played without any idea and often won by luck. When I learned the gameplay, I was able to reach the final.

1000163282My first final table in silver, after I learned how to play correctly I started to go far

You can't choose this combination of factors, and in my subjective opinion, there is no luck without skill. Only with skill can you win the tournament.

Skill and luck - luck to get the cards and then the run - skill with what to do with them and when and how

I think you need 100% skill and 99% luck during a tournament you meet many situations where you also need to be lucky

A high level of skill will result in greater success in the long run, which is why you see the same faces often on the TV final tables. A good dose of luck is always appreciated in the short term for the quick win (then leave the table!).

On live poker skill matters more in order to be eventually a winner . But live , rng matters more than skill or luck . I guess it's the skill to manipulate rng .

Success in poker is a mix of both skill and luck. In the short run, luck plays a big role, but over the long term, skill definitely wins out. Good players minimize losses during bad runs and maximize winnings when the cards go their way.

In the long run, considering hundreds of thousands of deals, there is no such thing as "luck" - only skill decides.

If you only get a few chances, it’s mostly up to luck.
But if you get tens of thousands of chances, then it all comes down to skill.

Many will say that it is more skill than luck, either because they sell courses, or because they make money from it in some way, but the truth is that it depends on where you play and with whom. For example, if you play online, as much as they don't want to admit it, many sites show magical results, where you play 15 out of 100, only with the top of the range, and the guy who plays 80/100, most of the time, these players will shove with any hand they think has value, and almost always, it doesn't matter if you only play AA, most of the time, the site will show a miraculous river. Of course, there are cases and cases, but lately it has been happening to me a lot. I play on average 15 to 20% of the hands, no more than that, and sometimes I can even pass if I get good hands, but then I see a guy who has 70% of the game, and I haven't gotten any good hands for 20 hands, so I enter with AA, the guy shoves 72off, on the flop comes his 7, then either on the river or on the turn, the next magic card comes, and this same guy wins 7 to 6 hands in a row. In short, online depends only on the algorithm, neither luck nor skill.

You can beat them with skill, but sometimes luck plays an important role.

While it's a game of skill, as the outcome depends primarily on individual skill and ability, poker also relies on luck, ensuring that each player's strategy aligns with the cards dealt on the table, which must match their hand. That said, I'd argue that it's not about skill or luck, but rather skill and luck in poker.

The debate over whether success in poker is determined by skill or luck has been ongoing for decades. On one hand, luck clearly plays a role in the short term. A player cannot control which cards they or their opponents receive, and sometimes even the best strategy will be defeated by an unlucky draw. However, in the long run, skill tends to outweigh luck. Skilled players use probability, psychology, and strategy to minimize risks and maximize gains. They know how to read opponents, manage their bankrolls, and make rational decisions under pressure. While luck might decide the outcome of a single hand or even a session, consistent success over months and years is usually proof of skill. Therefore, poker can be seen as a blend of both elements: luck provides unpredictability, but skill determines who can consistently turn that unpredictability into profit
