If you had the opportunity to ask a question to a poker pro, what would you ask them?

How did you get into poker, what advice would you have for playing in live tournaments?

I’d be curious to know where long-term players find the motivation to keep playing over the years.
A lot of people seem to quit the game for different reasons — burnout, losses, or just life changes.

I would ask how many times he considered giving up playing poker before he became a consistent, high-performing player, making a fortune from his skill on the felt.

I would like to ask how to make fewer mistakes and how to make the right decisions.

I would ask about the pool of different countries where the players are the weakest and where are the strongest.

What a secret he plays at the tables!!!!

They aren't some mythical creatures that are sent from the heavens, they are just normal people who play a game well.

A lot of pro poker players say the best part of their job is getting to play with people who are successful in other industries and endeavours because of how interesting their lives and stories are.

If you want to ask a poker related question you're better off finding a coach who is able to help a player of your level than asking Phil Ivey how to get good at poker. The only thing they can really teach you is how to study poker better, which is something you can find on the internet and forums like CC on your own.

I'd rather be at a table with the hedge fund manager David Einhorn or business mogul Paul Phua and be peers with the poker players.

Just my thoughts tho hope they help

If I had the opportunity to ask a poker pro just one question, I would ask:
How do you manage periods of negative variance while continuing to make the right decisions and stay motivated?
Because this is often where the difference between an average player and an elite player lies: maintaining a strong mentality and technical discipline even when short-term results aren't forthcoming.

You mean like one of those super dee duper tourn crusher/poker hofer types?

If theyre not walking somewhere or doing a blog or something like some of them do, lol but at a table on break relaxing then i wouldnt mind walking up to one and politely asking for an autograph.

And if they refuse or say something odd, then i would say sorry for bothering them and still wish them gl.

If you play lesser events around the time of the big buy ins or just go watch then you'll see them around and its not a big deal but they have a lot of things going on and you dont want to be a jerk to them so you have to be careful bothering them.

And theyre ppl who have troubles, pressures to perform and some of them still have to deal with the public which can add even more stress so. . . i would be careful, respectful and understanding if you just to walk up to one of them.

And really be mindful that the way theyre perceived in the media may not be what they actually are in real life or you might just run into them at a bad moment, lol, so dont be dissappointed if they dont measure up.

I would ask: “How do you emotionally handle a long streak of bad beats or losing sessions? Do you have any routine or specific technique to stay focused and not lose confidence in your game?

They hire Elliot Roe or a different Mental Game Coach :)

Professionals surround themselves with other professionals to help them achieve their goals :)

You can even find a 2+2 thread where LLinusLLove is talking about tilting off stacks at 10NL, now he's the best cash game player in the world...

No one is born with a air tight mental game, but it will improve given you give it the appropriate amount of focus.

But how would a poker pro know the best method for dealing with YOUR personal mental games hangups? They don't, they hire people whose job it is to understand the way the human brain works the same way the poker player knows flop strategies.

Pros in any field usually divert answers to pros in the area in question... The CFO answers Financial Questions, the COO answers questions about the firm's Operations, and the CEO sums everything up and explains the businesses overall strategy because he is the MFWIC.

I would ask Negreanu how come when he was younger his live reads were so much better.Like he would tell his opponents what hey actually had. I would ask Kristen Foxen how she feels about the way she played that KQ hand at the final table. Was it a mistake, does she still think it was the best play?
