Have you ever taken a long break from poker — and come back better?

I recently took a two-month break and came back feeling sharper than ever. I guess the mental reboot helped me see things more clearly. Have you ever taken a break from the game for a while? Has it helped your progress or hurt? I would like to know how others experience burnout and recovery in poker.

In my case, this isn’t just about poker.
I often find that I understand things better after taking some time to rest and let it all sink in, rather than trying to get it right after studying.
Right after learning something new, I try not to fool myself into thinking I’ve already got it.

I usually take a break 2 days a week. The break is primarily due to the fact that I am either very tired after my main job or I may not feel well. But even on such days, I try not to miss freerolls. A break can definitely be very useful because it can save you money and nerves :)

If you have a problem with anything, then a break is good. If it comes to poker in my opinion after the break the algorithm let you win so you can keep playing.

I'm one of those people who believes that if you don't win for a long time, you should take a break and the game will get better.

In this case, alternating a month-long break between several rooms would give a good result. You could play in 4 or 5 rooms and each time you stop playing, the algorithm would always favor you when you start playing again in each room.

The longest I’ve gone without playing a tournament was two months, and that was only because work made it really hard to find time.

Taking a break is a great idea when you aren't in a good place mentally or recognizing you are getting burned out. Take care of yourself.

Yes, after I started playing some time ago I had to take a break, but I took the opportunity to study and prepare myself more.

Smart move. I have done this as well and game back to kick some butt's when I did. Sometime its just what we need.

There was a time when I had stopped playing poker but it was because my PC had been damaged, I stopped playing poker for about 1 year until I could play again and I can say that this break did me a lot of good.

I enjoy playing poker and see no reason to take a long break.

I took a month off several times. After the break, to be honest, I think I played a little bit worse, lost my form. But if I take a break for no longer than a week, I can confidently say that such a break is good for me and it is reflected in my results.

I am on a break now. It is hard to remind myself to keep up with some chats here so I don't lose plat status again.

It may be good to take a break, especially if you are getting poor results, but it won’t do you any good if you don’t study your method of play and correct your mistakes. After my last short time off, finding a typical mistake, I won a platinum tourney, so in this case the break was useful.
Losing a few TRUE bad beats isn’t necessarily a reason to take a breather.

I got into the game in 2006, and since then I've taken many long breaks, and I'm on a break right now. It's a nice hobby, but you can burn out at it too. It's not uncommon to take years off, but then just get back to the tables.

Never took a break from poker. I live inside this game like Neo in the Matrix. :ROFLMAO: I have never felt tired of poker and therefore never felt the urge to take a break from this game. I think motivation and my goals in poker have a serious impact.

I took a break for a while, not super long, but enough to clear my head. I'd been grinding $2 Sit'n'Go's and honestly, I was autopiloting and not really improving. When I came back, I started looking at spots differently.

The break helped more than I expected. I came back more focused and with a real desire to study, not just play. I think sometimes taking a step back is exactly what helps us move forward.

I didn't take breaks for more than a few weeks. But really, after the break, I seemed to play much better, I was more focused and enduring. I think breaks are a useful thing that can be used effectively to improve your results.
