Standard payout for both variations is the same, however, at 35:1.

Both European and American roulette pay 35:1 on a straight-up number bet.

I guess this phrasing is standard for historical reasons, but isn't it kinda weird? If you bet 10$ on a number and the number happens, you now have 360$, not 350$. Yea I know the idea of saying 1:35 is that you "win" 350$ and then also get your 10$ back. But why are we treating the money you've put onto the board as belonging to you? This certainly isn't what we do in poker; if the pot is 100$, opponent bets 100 on the River, and you're debating a call, then we don't say "well you're getting 2:1 because you're winning 200$, and also you get your 100$ back"; we're just saying you're getting 3:1 because you're paying 100$, which are now gone, and then you're getting 300$ back. By this logic, payouts in roulette would be 1:36, not 1:35.

Edit: actually I'm realizing this isn't true; people do say they get 2:1 pot odds in this example. I'm just not doing this myself, I always think "I need 1/3 here" not "I'm getting 2:1". But yeah I guess the phrasing as used in roulette is actually normal even in poker, so nvm.

I play roulette, both European and American. When I play live, I only play European. Online, I play American as well. I wouldn't say I have great results, but every year I lose less and less money at roulette, and for me that's progress to a certain extent.

Not really a fan of roulette, probably because the chances of picking the number are slim and none, and slim died last week. My roommate loves it but also just plays at the automated one, no actual person spinning. Just a big wheel in the middle of the casino and people sit around and dump money.

I didn't know about that difference between American and European roulette. You must be really lucky to win in a roulette and make a profit but sometimes its fun just to bet for black or red, only here you have quite higher chance to win

What is the third green? 000?

Yes, and when I was in Vegas last year, there was only 1 casino with European Roulette, which was Caesars Palace. So off I trotted with my money in my pocket, dreaming of that double spin. So I went to one of the floor bosses and asked where it was, and he said we have not got it open at the moment. I was fed up (cant swear too much). So I asked when they were likely to open it, and he said a couple of hours, so off I went to get some food and have a drink.

I went back after the 2 hours and asked someone else where it was - he pointed me in the right direction. I saw this table, and to my disgust, yes, it was European Roulette, numbers in the same order as the European wheel. However, yup, they had added an additional 00. I asked the croupier if they had one with a single zero; she informed me that they hadn't, so I kept my money in my pocket and felt like writing a complaint, but would they listen? I doubt it.

Disgraceful from the place where you would think it had everything,:mad::mad:

I don't think American roulette and European roulette are very different. In any case, it's a game where the casino has the advantage. If you're lucky enough to win today, tomorrow you'll leave what you won in the same place. I generally prefer poker, and if I were to play at a casino, it would most likely be blackjack.

I once read that there is also French roulette and that this type of game became the basis for American and European roulette. Although maybe these are just legends. If you think about it, you could say that roulette began when people invented the wheel :)

My friends and I played this game even before I played my first classic poker tournament, or rather my first freeroll :) Many years ago, we all got together and played this game for money. The game is extremely exciting, very interesting, and incredibly unpredictable.

I wonder what casino would allow you to record their roulette wheel? Unless it was done in secrecy.
But I could tell a true story about a slot player who managed to figure out (with help) a slot machine algorithm and win big. He ended up in court.

I know in casinos in England, they provide you with a card if you want it, where you can watch and write the numbers down. The thing to remember about roulette is that what has come before it does not follow that something will happen next.

That's very interesting given all the regulations they have regarding gambling in the United Kingdom. I guess if you records they will ban you from the place?

All you can really do is look for games with less zeros.

Each spin is independent, and the only difference is how big of an edge the house has.

I’ve never played roulette. I’ve always played poker and black jack in the casinos and the slot machines .. so this might be a new learning experience for me

If you’re trying out roulette for the first time online, or even if you’ve only just played Roulette sporadically for fun, you may not know that there are several different types of Roulette, each with slightly different variations of game play. So, what are they, and what’s the difference? Let’s find out…

American Roulette
The most popular roulette variation, what sets American Roulette apart from the others is its use of the green single zero and green double zero spaces on the wheel. American Roulette also has and a higher house edge; due to having 38 pockets, rather than 37 pockets contained in a European wheel.

European Roulette
Having just one zero on the wheel (and one less pocket than American Roulette), means that European Roulette has a significantly lower house edge. Playing this version is much easier on your bankroll.

House Edge: American vs. European
Just how big of a difference is the house edge between American and European Roulette? Quite a bit! In fact, European Roulette’s house edge is nearly half of its American Counterpart:
  • European house edge: 2.7%
  • American house edge: 5.26%
Standard payout for both variations is the same, however, at 35:1.

French Roulette
Similar to European Roulette, French Roulette has two rules around the ball landing on zero: La Partage and En Prison to make things really interesting! It’s a bit complicated, and not easy to find a casino or game that uses these rules. But you can real all about them on our “Roulette Glossary of Terms” on this Roulette Rules page.

Other Variations
There are other variations of roulette that you may find on any number of online casino sites, including:
  • Live Dealer: Exactly what it says on the box – a real-life dealer live streams wheel spins and call the bets online.
  • Mini-Roulette: Same rules as European, but with less numbers on the wheel; ideal for beginners to help learn the ropes.
  • Multi-Ball, Multi-Wheel, and Royal Roulette: Not your run-of-the-mill roulette, these variations give players exciting alternatives to roulette norms with multiple balls, wheels, and bet types in play.
You can read about all these roulette variations, plus links to more rules and betting strategy on our casino.us Roulette Guide.

I only knew the European and American roulettes, besides some variation with less numbers. I didn't know there was a multi ball roulette, sounds fun.

I love classic roulette. In my understanding, classic means European. I haven't played American roulette, but I think it doesn't matter because the principle is the same :)

In casinos, roulette has long been the main position of the entire catalog. A newcomer will come here for the first time after opening the live section. Therefore, the developers have come up with several cool modern options.Mini roulette game online. There are only 13 sectors, the rules are simple, and rounds are held every 30 seconds. The chances of winning here are usually lower, but instant rounds add their excitement.Multi-wheel game. You can bet on several wheels at once so that at least one wins. These are more dynamic and interesting games that may seem difficult for beginners.Double Chance. The dealer throws two balls at once. This increases your chances of winning and opens up several additional betting options, which is a lot of fun.Whether roulette is a game worth your attention is up to you, but it is worth trying. You just need to find your variation and start making profitable bets right away.

I think the game can be fun when you’re having some drinks and betting a very small amount of money on red and black, just hoping for the best. I’ve never had much success the few times I’ve played, but who knows—maybe one day I’ll hit a lucky streak

I always played roulette intuitively. I didn't have a system as such. But I have to say that roulette brought me more money than all other casino games combined. I play solely relying on my intuition, and there were days when I had very good results.

only play European roulette because casinos also offer American roulette. I don't see the point in playing American when another number is working against me. There are hundreds of roulette strategies but my favorite is on color and if I lose I double the amount until I win.

I often bet on different numbers that I choose at random, relying solely on my intuition. I don't trust number histories; in my opinion, they're just a lure. But in general, I never play for more than $10 per evening. If I lose, I have a chance to make up for it in nightly freerolls :)

I don't play roulette as often as slots, because I find it much harder to win at roulette. Overall, I think it's one of the most difficult casino games, where your chances are minimal. But sometimes I'm willing to spend a few dollars for fun. The main thing is that my intuition tells me to make that choice.
