If gambling were illegal in your country, would you continue to play in illegal casinos, or would you accept the ban and stop playing?
How would you act in such a situation?

If you're talking about poker, I would continue to play anywhere as long as it's decent and safe.
If it's about any other games, I wouldn't care at all.

And btw, everything is legal in my country. We have casinos, horse races, dog races, sports betting, lotteries and so on (All mostly owned and operated by the rulers). Ironically, pokerstars has suddenly fallen out of their grace lately. Now, we can no longer access it (August 19th).

Honestly, if gambling were made illegal where I live, I don’t think I’d risk playing in underground casinos. The lack of regulation and the legal issues would probably take away all the enjoyment. Part of what makes poker fun is the community and the safe environment, and that would be missing.

Still, I wouldn’t just give up the game completely. I’d probably look for legal online options abroad, or stick to private home games with friends. Even studying strategy or analyzing hands can keep the passion alive without putting yourself in danger. For me, it’s about finding ways to keep enjoying poker without crossing into risky territory.

Law isn't perfect. I don't care about the law as long as my actions don't harm other people and it won't get me into trouble.

For example, weed is banned in most countries while alcohol is available at every corner, but all the violence comes from alcohol.

All drugs are bad, but you get the point.

I would play, but prioritize my safety

I would definitely continue playing in illegal casinos. I used to play very often in underground clubs and unlicensed gaming halls. There were quite a few such establishments in my city. Probably the only condition that would make me stop gambling would be if it carried a prison sentence or the death penalty.

In my country there is a National Gambling Office , where any gambling site should register, if they want to be legitimate, and all the other poker rooms and casinos are blacklisted

Providers should pay taxes for revenue and players pay , 2% for deposits and 4% and up to 10% for withdrawals....

I can play poker just on GG , PS , 888 , unibet , and I stick to that

Administrative Fine for players approximately €1,130 to €2,260 as of 2025 (Fines are issued after detection, often via monitoring or reports. Repeat offenses may escalate.)
Potential back taxes on winnings/deposits, plus interest/penalties (Winnings from illegal sites are not tax-exempt; players may owe up to 10% tax on gross amounts, leading to audits and recovery actions.)

Just check in with your local agencies

Nah i'm pretty sure that there are quite a few here for whom gambling is legal in their country but still play in illegal (unlicensed) sites ...

Some governments see gambling as a social risk — it can lead to addiction, financial problems, and crime. To protect vulnerable people and maintain public order, they choose to ban or strictly control it. That's how life is. And if someone really wants to ignore their government’s rules, there are always ways around the system — registering through another country, using a VPN, and so on. But of course, that comes with its own risks.

Yes if gambling would be illegal in my country I would definitely continue in on regulated or illegal casinos. I don't care about laws regarding this.

I think that if gambling becomes illegal, I will play even more. The fact that it is against the law will, I think, create additional excitement. It will be like Prohibition, an era of underground casinos will begin, and it will be even more difficult to give up such entertainment :)

Some of you are really missing the point, you cant cash out from a site which is not regulated in your area....

Yes you can all play demo money!! and have fun.

Check your local agencies and play where you are allowed, pay your taxes and respect the rules

Smells like tax evasion

No in my country those who are under 18 are not allowed to enter the casino and are not allowed to play any casino games or other types of games involving cash betting.

Yes you can. Pretty sure quite a few here have done exactly that.
Also in several countries gambling wins are tax free so not playing taxes on them sure smells like tax evasion

I don't know. Law is very selective and questionable in my county for many reasons. It's hard to respect it. Long time ago I played live poker and still not even sure if that tournaments were illegal.

But it will get you in trouble if it's illegal even if you don't care about the law.

If the imposed fine was very large , I might had second thoughts if the risk playing on this casino worths it or not . Just ban a casino and not impose a large fine , that wouldn't stop me . Also casinos or poker rooms put obstacles to players. that try to play there for regulation reasons or whatever

The only game I love is poker, and since the casinos in Botswana dont have it I wont have any problem withmaking gambling illegal. Im not a fan of sport betting also, but once in a while I deposit to betway and lose it all within a few days

If gambling were punishable by fines or other more severe penalties, I would probably give up this pastime... or perhaps start thinking about moving to another country.

Yeah same here the only game i really play in casinos is Poker. Sometimes a bit slots but couldn't care less if Slots are no more available one day.
