Found this to be an interesting question. What do you think? Again, don't use an equity calculator, that defeats the point. The hands differ by about 2.5%.

I say ATo, have a straight draw and block an out for TT if i hit an A.

On the other hand i cant hit trip.9s or 9 high straight but still going with ATo

Without a doubt, ATo looks more promising. I think there is no need to explain anything.

Intersting, though in practice we never know our opponents exact hand.

No clue how people would play them step-by-step until river, however in multiways imo A9 off feels better than A10.

Yeah, so
  • A9 wins if it hits two 9s
  • but, both A9 and AT lose if they hit an A and a T, which AT makes half as likely by blocking one of the two remaining Ts
  • I think hitting A & T is about twice as likely as hitting two 9s (though could be wrong on the math), so these two effects should just about cancel each other out
... and then AT has the additional advantage of the straight draw with KQJ, so that could account for the difference.

I think that's probably a correct argument, although my first intuition was that A9 had to be better because it's "not dominated"

AT has more equity, the most important reason being, that it block half the outs of TT to improve to a set to still beat top pair of aces.
