Are Online Cash Games Always Like This?

Hey everyone; until yesterday I've never played cash game format poker - only Sit n Gos or MTTs, so thanks for checking out my thread

I expected cash games to be slightly different from table stakes poker mostly because of the option to reload and the generally deeper stacks, but not as different as what I actually encountered. Unlike MTT events, most players were opening like 10x the Big Blind and were betting the pot on multiple streets when they continue (perhaps just to build the pot, but even with bottom pair they did this!).

I guess if you bust, then you just reload (unlike the games I play where once you are out, you are typically out for good). My simple question: is this normal for online cash games or was my table just crazy and aggressive?

Any insight or cash game differences would be appreciated

Opening 10x is very rare, some very spewy newbies might do it from time to time. However pot betting and overbetting is pretty common, especially on turns and rivers. reason is with very strongest hands you want to build a huge pot and stacks are deep, so you can't get all chips in without overbetting. If you have nuts advantage then you should include overbets in your betting. Bottop pair overbets are usually bluffs, because even when called you can catch a second pair or trips. So, on dry boards makes sense to bluff with bottom pairs.

Thanks - especially the part about pot bets and overbets. It makes sense, but it isn't something I'm used to seeing regularly as a Sit n Go or MTT player

Could you confirm the site, stakes and table type you were playing at (Zoom vs Standard/6-max vs full ring)? Also I'm assuming you were playing NLHE, right?

My experience with 2-10NL 6-max Zoom (when I played cash) was much more nitty on Stars, so I'm curious if this is unique to a specific site or game type.

I’ve found that it depends on the players. There are different styles of play and different goals for each individual.

Yeah I figured it would vary from site to site and level of stakes for sure.

This was on Replay Poker (site only uses play chips), so perhaps this explains some of the "freeroll-like" aggression, but I guess I just didn't have better to compare it with since I don't typically play cash game format.

Edit: don't recall the stakes (but entire site is play-chips anyways) and players at table was 6-max if I recall.

I find, that usually, you get a mix of both tight, and loose players at a table, but to avoid that, you can take a look at how many hands are played per hour, to give you a good indication of what type of table it is.

In that way, if you want to play cash games, you can enter the table that more meets with your style.

For me, I pick loose, aggressive tables, and play tight.

Yeah, I guess players are much more agressive when they play cash games, and more tighter when they play tournament
