Hi Mike,

welcome to CC forum! I have question about spending time @onlinepoker or pokertable, what do you think is a good limit in hours per week, so that you cant get in a situation of overplayed sessions which are too longlasting and your rate of playing is also too high during a week.

greets

Hey Balou, that's a very reasonable question, and like most things with poker, there is no one size fits all answer. Without knowing anything about your situation, I would simply ask:

1) Do you know what your A-game looks like?
2) How long can you play your A-game before it deteriorates?
3) What level of your game are you willing to tolerate? B? C?
4) How does losing a buyin affect your game?
5) Do you have a stop loss?

It's a very good practice to log how long you play and your level of play during that period. Everyone has different tolerances.

Thank you very much for your quick answer and i will go deep into myself to answer this question by myself ;-)!

If anyone else is willing, it would be a cool exercise to see the range of answers. I'll start

1) When I'm playing my A-game, I'm always thinking at least 2 actions ahead. Bet sizing comes to me immediately. I'm very conscious of HOW I'm going to exploit my opponents based on their tendencies. I'm thinking fully and deeply about my range and my opponent's range.

2) If I'm playing live, I will start to lose focus after 3-4 hours. At this point at the minimum I take an extended walk. If I'm playing online (6-8 tables), I play very well in 45 minute stretches, and take a walk or break in between.

3) My B-game is slightly aggravating, I will not play if I'm at my C-game

4) Live: 2 deepstacked buyins will cause me to start to think about getting back to even or winning. Online: completely desensitized

5) Live: 2 deepstacked buyins unless I'm still playing my A-game and the game is very good. Online: No

I think this is an individual question and depends on your schedule and availability of free time. I work about 5-6 hours a day and I actually have no more than 4-5 hours left for playing. I also make sure to take 1 or 2 days off a week. I think if it wasn't for my main job, I could play 8 or even 10 hours a day.

The ideal thing for you is to play cash games, you can have short sessions of 2 to 4 hours and you will still have a good volume of play.

These days i think short cash sessions of 1 to 1.5 hours are best. Too long and my game deteriorates.

You should walk 8 to 10 hours a day. To pass that time would be to play sold out

I think you have to take into account your own ability to play and stay focused. I don't think you should play more than 6-7 hours a day. At least I get tired and lose concentration after 6-7 hours of playing.

Hi. I think that here on the forum there are different types of people regarding the time they allocate to poker depending on each person's activity in a day and how many priorities they have at that moment.I have to admit that I like it and that I play it a bit detached, often after an hour I pray I can get rid of it and move on to something else.Sometimes if it's going too well I just keep playing and it's like you can't get enough. But since we've all been through different phases, I'd be tempted to say that the best session is when you're stretched to the max. (if there is money at stake that really deserves a lot of attention) I would say 8 hours or less. For me, some days I can't even last two and I leave the table satisfied that I am not forced by anyone to do more.

In my mind more than 6 hours of poker is a high level and you ´re absolutely right with that point, most of us loose concentration at this point or a bit earlier, i think in most cases 5 min brakes every hour in a long run cant change this problem :).
