Ignoring the fact that the thread turned into an argument over how to calculate percentages, have a look at this: https://www.cardschat.com/showthread.php?t=66996

In the first hand, I would have bet the river only because he was almost out of chips. Against a larger stack opponent, I'd check/call.

In the second hand I also check/call.

In both cases, you hate being raised, and you have to call because of pot odds. Then it's simply smarter to allow him to check behind his weak hands (which he would have folded), or even better - bluff with them, allowing you to hit him hard. He will bet the hands that beat you anyway, so you may as well see the showdown for one bet instead of two.

On the second hand, I don't think you factored in his pre-flop raise. Assuming he was a fairly solid player suggested he had a strong hand - most likely AK, AQ or a pocket pair. Therefore if he suddenly started betting, then you have to wonder whether he just made trips, and when the Ace hit then you have another reason to question whether your hand is beat. On the suspicions about his starting hand, the straight possibilities don't look that likely to be a danger to you, though. You had the option of checking on the river, and given the scare cards, it would probably have been sensible to check behind him. When he raised your bet on the river, I'm presuming you knew you were almost certainly beat, but felt the need to call it down to make sure?
