I think it all depends on the opponent, if he is tight, then fold preflop, if he is aggressive, then just 5 bet push.

I think you just made the correct action, but the board was bad for you

I think you done right with a 3bet preflop. The rest fold. HJ plays aggressive and I think he had a K. your fold was right

Against this guy w/ position, no, pre-flop is fine. But you need to shove turn.

Preflop
Folding JJ to a 4-bet would be very exploitable, when you are 3-betting 7% of hands on average. It would basically mean, you are only giving action with QQ+, which is only 1,5% of hands. It is 2NL, so most likely the opponent dont have a perfectly balance 4-betting range, but I dont think, we can put him on a range of just AA and KK either. And even if he has that a lot of the time, then at least you are highly likely to get his entire stack, when you flop a set.

Flop
If we thought, he was only 4-betting KK+, then we could fold now having missed our set. But I think, we need to assume a somewhat wider range like maybe QQ+, AK, and then its almost 50/50, if we are a 9:1 dog or a 3:1 favourite.

Turn
Now he check, and I think, this drastically increase the chance, he has AK and reduce the chance, he has QQ+. You can jam here for protection, but I also think, its fine to check back. If his range really is this defined, then we know exactly, which cards are bad for us on the river, and maybe - just maybe - checking the turn will induce him to bluff the river with AK. Or any other hand, that missed, if he ever have them.

River
If his range is QQ+, AK, then you beat nothing now. In theory he could have some hands like AQ with a spade, that now wants to bluff, but even getting 3:1 I just dont think, there is enough of that going on, because at 2NL I think, such hands are much more likely to just call your 3-bet rather than 4-bet.

All in pre.
Although the stats are small sample, it's fairly clear he's aggro post flop. Holding JJ in a 4bet pot is pretty uncomfortable when villain is aggro.
As played, you either jam the checked turn or have to fold the river as you did.
But if it's me, against an aggro player, I would have been all in preflop.
