There is nothing wrong with "taking risks" early in a tournament, but it needs to have a positive expectation (+EV). So if I think, I am ahead of the maniacs range with some reasonable margin like say 55%
equity, then I call, if I close the action. If the maniac bust me, thats not a problem, because I always have enough money to reenter to play another similar tournament. If there are still players left to act behind, I tighten up, because I also need to consider, how much I am risking against them. Like maybe calling off a 70BB jam from a maniac with TT is profitable in itself, but if 6 players behind could all wake up with JJ+ and call as well, then maybe I pass.
