Recreational players, as you call them, can win. They have to put the time in and learn how to play properly. It is the same for most things - the more you put in, the more you take out.

If players are literally sitting down and do not know what they are doing, then perhaps they would be better off playing slot machines.

Sometimes a recreational gets a lot of strong hands in a row , like AA, KK or AK, and wins without needing to know much.

Why don't they win? They win even expensive tournaments, and not so rarely. That's the appeal of tournament poker.

I would guess that the majority of players on CardsChat are Recreational players, that is we don't play for a living. However over the years I have seen a number of these Recreational players really play well..luck not considered. just plain playing skills. Think about why in the majority of Daily Free rolls the same players end up on the FT or ITM..luck? ok a little and some poker savy
